We recently connected with Lindsey Clark and have shared our conversation below.

Lindsey , appreciate you joining us today. The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.

It’s crazy, I was a freshman at Florida Memorial University in 2009. One day I was in my dorm room trying to figure out how I was going to make some extra money . My parent took care of my tuition , I really didn’t need anything but I wanted to be able to hang out , go out to eat , get my nails and stuff done , you know regular girly stuff and I was like I need to get some money! Everyone always complimented me on my hair and makeup in school so I decided to teach myself a few things and those few things turned into clients in my dorm room a couple nights and I just decided to keep it going and that’s really how it all started!

Lindsey , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Before I became a successful makeup artist I was in front of the camera. I did some modeling and I appeared in a couple music videos before I decided that I wanted to be behind the scenes. I was in college the same time I was auditioning for different gigs and something just motivated me to get into the beauty industry because I felt like my real calling was making other women feel beautiful.

I went through a lot when it comes to being an entrepreneur. Sleepless nights, alot of sacrifices but I made it happen. I became a mom in 2012 , I was 22 years old and I was really doing my thing but I had to slow down . I took my time and became a mom of a handsome little boy named Marcus who is now 9 years old! He truly taught me how to love someone so deep and how to be selfless .

I took some time off and I got back to it 2014 I started going really hard and it paid off . I started seeing all of my hard work pay off. .

2016 I got into a really toxic relationship that depleted me of all confidence I thought I had . I didn’t feel beautiful, I gained so much weight and I just loss so much in me that I worked so hard to gain. I lost everything physically and emotionally.

2018 I gave birth to my beautiful daughter Iyanna who is now 3 and I couldn’t have been any happier. I couldn’t believe God blessed me with a daughter . I needed her. She taught me how to love myself so I could show her everyday how to love herself.

I’m so proud that I was able to over come the trials and tribulations that tried to set me back but I kept going, I continued to pursue my dreams . I continued to be the best mom I could be and I continued to believe that real love existed. That real love came from my children and God.

I want all of my supporters to know that with God all things are possible ! I want my supporters to know that even though things may not seem to look like it’s working out for you continue to keep your faith in God ! Trust me he’s working it all out for you . It’ll happen for you when you least expect it! I promise.

How did you build your audience on social media?

In 2014 I started my social media accounts . No one knew who I was and everyone felt like you had to prove yourself to them . I showed them that I was a true hustler. I promoted the heck out of my business even when I got no likes, no follows , no shares and no reposts. I reached out to people who I felt like wouldn’t give me a chance and guess what? They gave me a chance ! I’m a huge risk taker. A calculated risk taker. A lot of the times we don’t have what we want because we don’t ask for what we want. I wanted to be successful so I only said successful things , surrounded myself with successful people and had successful thoughts.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

I feel that my personality and the fact that I am relatable. Everyone loves a person they can relate to .

I’m very transparent about my life and the things I’ve been through because I want people to know that their goals are also attainable.
