Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lindsay Martin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Lindsay thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
At Southern Sky Photography, our mission isn’t just about capturing images—it’s about preserving the stories that preserve people, places, and moments in time.
My journey began in small-town America, specifically South Georgia, where life moves at a different rhythm. It’s the kind of place where the past lingers in old storefronts and hand-written lettering, where family histories are told on front porches, and where light and old trees—golden and endless—paint the landscape in ways that demand to be remembered. This deep connection to place and history is at the heart of everything I create.
Photography, for me, is more than a profession; it’s a way of honoring my creative process. My medium is capturing things that time tends to steal away. Whether I’m documenting the restoration of an old building, the creative spark of a local artist, the person behind a brand or the everyday beauty of a family’s life, I approach each frame with reverence.
This is why Southern Sky Photography exists: to capture what matters before it fades, to honor the past while embracing the present, and to preserve the creative spirit that makes every place and person unique.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Lindsay Martin, Founder, Owner, Storyteller | I’ve based my 15-year career on the pursuit of connection to the stories of the people and places around me. I hold unique experience in editorial publishing, corporate communications and marketing for global brands, Fortune 150 companies and small businesses. Who is Southern Sky? My background includes brand management, public relations, commercial photography, editorial styling, creative direction, digital strategy, marketing and communications; positioning me to deliver engaging assets and campaign execution with the client’s deliverables and strategy top of mind for conversion. As a South Georgia native who spent 10 years in NYC before becoming a midwestern transplant, soul and song are woven into most things I create. It’s the stories we tell that connect us to others, but also to brands. I want to help tell yours. I stepped away from my corporate career a few years ago to provide creative consultation and management for local brands with services including photography, creative direction, brand activation and digital media management. I currently live in the Indianapolis area (willing to travel!) with my native-Hoosier husband and our joyful, busy toddler – my greatest muse.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Absolutely! One of the biggest things I wish I had been more exposed to were the grants available to female entrepreneurs and creatives. So much work has been done in this space since my parents’ generation, and I wish I had done a deep dive into that when I was younger.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Showing up consistently online even in seasons when I paused my business. I kept my website and social channels up to act as a living portfolio and even if I was not accepting clients at the time, I would share my travels, places, people and brands that inspired me. That built trust with an audience that even though I was not “selling” something at the time, I was still creating a curating simply for their and my own enjoyment. I place a high value on relationships so really taking time (years) to build relationships and friendships with clients, vendors and locals also helped through grass roots marketing.
