We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lindsay Dyan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lindsay, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Leaving the safety of a corporate job to build something from the ground up was terrifying but I knew I couldn’t ignore the fire inside me any longer. I started Cosmic Outlaw as a creative experiment, but it quickly became my dream: a bold, unapologetic brand for rebels, trailblazers, and creative souls like me. I poured my heart into every design, every detail, and every late night spent working to bring my vision to life. Taking the leap wasn’t easy—starting your own business never is—but trusting myself, even in the face of uncertainty, has been the most rewarding risk I’ve ever taken. Cosmic Outlaw isn’t just a brand; it’s proof that betting on yourself can lead to something extraordinary. :)

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve always been a creative at heart, drawn to storytelling and self-expression. My journey into entrepreneurship started with Cosmic Outlaw, (www.cosmicoutlaw.shop) a brand born from my love of design, music, and rebellion against the ordinary. It began as a passion project—a way to combine my artistic vision with a desire to create something meaningful. Cosmic Outlaw is more than just a clothing brand; it’s a movement for creative directors, trailblazers, and rebels who want to wear their identity proudly. Every piece is designed to inspire individuality and spark conversations, with bold, unapologetic designs that celebrate living authentically.
On the other side of my creative spectrum is Top of My Lungs (www.topofmylungs.com), my music blog. It’s a space where I share my experiences backstage, dive into stories about the bands that have shaped my life, and explore the magic of live music. Music has always been my anchor, and Top of My Lungs is my way of connecting with others who feel the same.
What sets me apart is that I don’t shy away from taking risks or being vulnerable. I left a corporate job to fully invest in these passions, knowing the road would be challenging but worth it. With Cosmic Outlaw, I provide apparel that resonates with bold, creative spirits, and with Top of My Lungs, I give readers a glimpse into the raw, unfiltered world of music.
I’m most proud of creating brands that connect with people on a personal level. Whether it’s a t-shirt that someone feels embodies their personality or a blog post that makes a reader nostalgic for their favorite concert, I want my work to inspire and uplift.
For those who follow my journey, I hope they see the power of chasing your passions and carving your own path. Cosmic Outlaw and Top of My Lungs are two sides of the same coin—both born out of my love for creativity, storytelling, and connection. My goal is to keep growing these platforms while staying true to my vision and encouraging others to take the leap into what sets their soul on fire.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Freedom is the thread that runs through everything I create. For me, freedom means breaking away from expectations—whether they come from society, a corporate job, or even my own fears—and carving a path that feels true to who I am.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Foster Community and Collaboration
Creative ecosystems thrive when people come together to share ideas and collaborate. Society can support this by building spaces—both physical and digital—where artists can connect, learn from one another, and co-create. Whether it’s through local maker fairs, online creative communities, or mentorship programs, fostering connections between creatives leads to innovation and growth.
