We were lucky to catch up with Lindsay Dini recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lindsay, thanks for joining us today. Too often the media represents innovation as something magical that only high-flying tech billionaires and upstarts engage in – but the truth is almost every business owner has to regularly innovate in small and big ways in order for their businesses to survive and thrive. Can you share a story that highlights something innovative you’ve done over the course of your career?
I have designed and created interchangeable headbands. My hair bows, or any hairbow, can clip in and out. I have skinny nylon baby headbands, wide nylon baby headbands, and kid satin covered headbands in an array of color options. This allows the parents to keep the hairbow throughout the child’s stages without having to throw away headbands with bows attached.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi! My name is Lindsay, owner of LinCee’s BOWtique. I am a proud Mom of 3 little girls. I have a 4-year-old and a set of 22-month-old twins. Before becoming a mom, I was a Fashion Designer specializing in social occasion dresses in Manhattan. I worked for Oleg Cassini, Decode 1.8, and Karl Lagerfeld. During Covid era, I had 3 kids in 3 years, moved out to Suffolk County Long Island, and thought I left the fashion world behind me. Well, little did I know, I would be right back in it and start a company. When I was working a part time job, I began making my girls and their friends hair bows. I quickly realized that everyone was having trouble finding anything “special”. It rapidly went from a few bows to a few hundred bows per month due to demand. I walked away from a steady paycheck and went all in on my newfound passion. I did a soft launch to family and friends in July 2022. I made an official launch in September 2022. And I made the business an LLC this May. I am most proud of my unique designs. As well as creating the interchangeable head bands. This allows my customers to re-use their hairbows after their babies and kids grow out of the headbands.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients right now is Instagram. This is the platform I started with. In the past year, I have gained over 1k followers organically. I believe this is from my hashtags and local moms tagging me in their pictures. I also sell to 5 local stores which helps get my brand out there.

Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?
I manufacture my own product. I design, purchase material, and hand sew every hair bow. I run the business from start to finish, with the occasional help of my mother cutting strips of fabric for me. I know how to do to cost sheets and to price out the bows for wholesale and retail. The biggest lesson I learned along the way is where to purchase materials from. To keep my pricing competitive, I have had to do a lot of research on where to get my clips, fabric strips, and the branded hair bow/ headband holders. I have to purchase form the right wholesalers who have low minimums. This has definitely been one of the hardest struggles.
