Lily , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
I genuinely wouldn’t change anything at all about by job! Even the tedious and mundane parts are exciting because I know I’m working on building a business I’ve created on my own! I’m absolutely filled with joy each day while working. I know God has me exactly where He wants me! While having my own business, I have contemplated working another job and either ending my business or doing it part time but in reality I know I would never be able to give up having my dream job! The freedom and flexibility I have every day is unbeatable.
Lily , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As a personal shopper I help people look and feel their best! On top of shopping for clients, I have an online boutique of curated second hand clothing and accessories. My passion has always been styling and shopping so I’m grateful to have figured out to make my hobby my job. I first created my business back in 2018 and I was mainly focused on saving trendy and stylish items from going to landfills and giving people access to cute clothes for affordable prices! As my business has grown the past few years, I’ve honed in on mine and my customers personal styles and really aim to source clothes I know they’ll love! As far as personal shopping, I’ve grown up shopping for friends and family who didn’t enjoy the process like I do and love to be able to help bring them joy or take away some stress of finding the perfect outfit or item!
How did you build your audience on social media?
Social media is the absolute best tool for small business owners! My Instagram especially has been a real big help in growing an audience and finding my niche! You can find anything and everything online so you should most definitely be advertising yourself and your business. Over the last few years I’ve grown my social media following to more than I would have ever expected. Consistency, thoughtfulness, and realness are some ways I’ve noticed aided in my growth. With everyone having some form of social media, it’s sometimes hard to stand out. It takes time to really find your aesthetic and hone in on your niche audience, so give yourself grace and time while you grow your accounts!
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
I’ve always been a thrifter and have loved the hunt for fun things! Naturally, my love for shopping and thrifting led me to resell on online shopping platforms. I knew that thrift stores were full of trendy and cool items that were just waiting to be found, but also realized a lot of people didn’t have the time or energy to spend all afternoon flipping through clothes! After a couple years of figuring out the reselling world I decided to make a name for my company and from there we have just grown! I got my start selling on the poshmark app and after only about 6 months of selling I got an email from poshmark asking me to speak at their yearly conference which was such an insane opportunity and that really got the ball rolling me and was a big motivator.
