We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Leyshla Colon. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Leyshla below.
Leyshla, appreciate you joining us today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
I am happy – and I think my answer might look a little different, because I’m still working a 8-4 job while building my business.
But I love it….and here’s why.
This season of my life has taught me discipline on a whole different level. Having a vison sounds good…but the day-to-day work behind it? That’s the real part.
Late nights. Early mornings. Continuing to push forward on the days you feel drained, when the results aren’t instant.
That’s where the real version of you gets built.
Do I ever wonder what it would be like to just work my 8-4 job and not carry the weight of a business?
Of course. There are days it would feel easier. Less pressure. More predictable.
But I also know…easy was never the goal.
I didn’t start this business just to make money – I started it because I genuinely enjoy entrepreneurship….the creativity behind it, the experiences, the freedom, and being able to build something step-by-step.
I’d rather be tired from building something I believe in….than staying comfortable in a path that I know doesn’t align with me.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Leyshla, and I’m the owner of Leyshla’s Luxe Shop, a home fragrance brand offering a variety of handcrafted products – from candles and wax melts to room sprays, car diffusers, and more – all designed to create intentional, cozy, and elevated experiences.
I didn’t just get into this industry for the product-I got into it because of the experience behind it. I’ve always been drawn to the feeling a space can give you. The way a scent, lighting, and atmosphere can completely shift your mood, your energy, and even your mindset. That’s what I wanted to create for other people.
What started as an idea has grown into something much deeper. Each product I create is hand-poured and intentionally made-not just to smell good, but to help people slow down, reset, and enjoy their space. In a world where everything moves fast, I create products that bring people back to a moment of peace and presence.
Beyond products, I also host candle pouring workshops, where people can come together, learn the process, and create their own candle in a hands-on, guided experience. It’s more than just a workshop-it’s an opportunity to connect, create, and unwind.
My products are available through my website, Leyshlasluxeshop.com, as well as pop-up events and select retail locations, allowing customers to experience the brand both online and in person.
What set’s Leyshla’s Luxe Shop apart is the intention behind it. It’s not just about selling candles-it’s about creating a feeling. From the scent blends to the branding to the way each order is packaged, everything is done with purpose. I want every customer to feel like they’re experiencing something, not just making a purchase.
I’m also a contributing author in a collaborative book project, where I share moments, mindset, and lessons through entrepreneurship.
The main thing I want people to know about Leyshla’s Luxe Shop is that this is more than a business. Every product, every class, and every experience is created with intention. My goal is build a brand that people don’t just buy from-but connect with, return to, and remember.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One of the biggest things I had to unlearn was thinking that entrepreneurship meant always chasing the next dollar.
When I first stated, I thought that’s what beinga business owner was-constantly thingking about sales, how to make more money, what’s going to sell the fastest. I was focused on pushing products, running deals, trying to get quick results…and honestly, it felt forced.
I remeber times where I would post, promote, or even cerate things just beciase I thought this might make money-not because it actually alligned with my brand or the experience I wanted to create.
And I started to feel it.
The brand didn’t feel a sstrong. The content didnt feel as natural. And even when I wasn’t getting the reults I expected, it felt frustrating-like I was dooing everything “right” but it still wasn’t working.
That’s when it clicked for me.
Entrepreneurship isn’t about chasing money.
Once I shifted my focus from making quick sales to actually building the business, everything started to change.
The lesson for me was this:
Money is a result-not the focus.
When you focus on the experience, the intention, and the value you’re creating…the money follows.
And that completely changed how I approach my business now.
Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?
I mainly sell through my shopify site, which is Leyshlasluxeshop.com
I also sell in person through pop up events and retail locations, which helps me to connect with customers and grow awareness in a different way.
As far as pros and cons –
One of the biggest pros of having your own site is ownership. You control pricing, your branding, your customer experience, and you’re building long-term.
But the downside is-you have to bring your own traffic. There’s no built-in audience, so marketing and content become a big part of the work.
So for me, I chose to focus on my website because I’m not just trying to make sales – I’m trying to build a brand people recognize, connect with, and come back to.
