Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lexi Waisanen. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lexi , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear your thoughts about making remote work effective.
The company I work for has made remote-work very easy! It works better because we are all located in different parts of the country and by working remote, we can all be in contact and work at our own pace. I don’t think there have been any pitfalls that I have experienced. Some non-obvious benefits include working at our own pace and doing assignments whenever we have the time so you don’t have to be committed to the traditional 9-5.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a recent college graduate, I majored in Journalism with an emphasis in Film and Media Production. I would love to work on Films one day. I started in high school with Video Production and loved filming and editing short videos. During my time in College, I got to go to the 2024 Paris Olympics and report and create content for the games and the trip. Also in College, I completed an internship with Tabnie Dozier Enterprises (TDE). I got to interview clients, shoot and edit content and so much more! I am now a part-time media specialist for TDE. TDE is a media company that helps high-profile public figures, corporate companies, and established brands with storytelling, communication skills and press releases. TDE is known for storytelling, press releases, public speaking and media training, media and event consulting, and event hosting/MC duties. TDE helps clients with their social media, communication, and everything in between. TDE is special because it was built completely from the ground up and is 100% Black Woman owned. With over 15 years of experience in multiple fields of journalism, storytelling, and media. The company has produced many successful press releases and has a great track record. I truly believe all of the experience that the Reynolds School of Journalism and Tabnie Dozier Enterprises have given me has been some of the most important things I’ve ever done and I look forward to using the skills I gained in my future career as well.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is helping people and seeing my videos have an impact on social media. I love that I get to create videos for people, it is a fun and rewarding way to use my talent.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I first started high school, the school I went to offered programs like photography, video Production, and sports medicine. Since I was little, I would love to take pictures. I would take pictures on my Nintendo DSi, I found my parents old flip phones and would take pictures on those, and whenever we would go to a family function, I would be the one holding my dad’s camera, taking pictures of everything. So when I got to high school and started thinking of future careers, I decided that I could do the photography program at school. I was a little crushed when they told me that I would have to take a video production class first and then I could start photography in my sophomore year. So, I decided that I would suck it up and do video production for one year and then switch. But, after I finished the first year of video production, I ended up pivoting and stayed in video production all throughout high school. To me, it was better than photos and I didn’t even want to see what photography had to offer because video production was so fun. So, that first year in video production ended up pivoting my whole view and that’s how I ended up majoring in Film and media and working as a media specialist and editing videos as a career!
