We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Leslie Summerville a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Leslie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Leslie Summerville, owner of Summerville Activewear. I wanted to create a brand for busy women like myself. I’ve never been great with fashion Im a simple gal! So I created a brand that’s makes getting dressed a breeze by simplifying the process. Whether its going to a doctor’s appointment, picking up my son from school, a lunch date, or just cleaning around the house. I want to look good and feel good, so Summerville was born!
I knew at a young age I would become a business owner I would always tell my late grandfather how I never wanted to work for anybody but myself. I didn’t know how it would happen I just knew it would.
Summerville is focused on simplifying the process and producing quality items. I would never sell anything I wouldn’t buy myself that’s goes for style and quality.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I’ll scream from the top of my lungs, SOCIAL MEDIA, SOCIAL MEDIA! We are in the social media era, leveraging that is a top way to be seen. I started on Facebook and Instagram, showing people the process they were invested just like me. Asking potential customers if they like a certain color, if I should put my logo in a certain spot. Engaging in social media was big for me. I love dancing and having fun so I incorporated that in my marketing with reels as well as buying Ads, the goal is to get your brand in front of lots of people.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I would say word of mouth and quality. People love to talk about things they love. It’s so hard finding stylish, affordable and quality clothes all in the same realm, but I made that possible. When it comes to producing pieces for any collection quality comes first.
