We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Le’Roy Kester a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Le’Roy, thanks for joining us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
To be honest, I am happy as an actor. I have a regular job but acting to me is not just an art but also as a means to escape from reality, even if for a moment. Personally, if income is taken out of the equation, I don’t mind acting every day.
Le’Roy, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Ever since I was a kid, I always wanted to express myself and be heard. It started by performing Micheal Jackson Improvs and singing in stage competitions years ago. I would say when I came to The United States, I realised it could actually be possible to make something out of my expressive nature. Whilst pursuing my Bachelor’s degree in computer information systems, I decided to take on some background work just to get a taste of it; first one being on the set of Godzilla: King of the Monsters; after that, I got hooked. I have been on numerous film and tv sets and I even have screen time in Avengers: Endgame.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, it’s the opportunity to live numerous lives in one lifetime, in a matter of speaking. I think acting is an opportunity to see ourselves in a different light and as a different person.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
To be able to afford a Lamborghini. HAHA! Seriously though, the goal is to have a lasting impact on anyone who comes across my work as an actor. I enjoy what I do, and want to get really good at it by the day, not just for me, but moreso for the people who will try to connect to whatever character I portray on screen.
