We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lemon Disco a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lemon, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
The majority of what we learned now is from personal experience and from trail and error. Listening to other musicians and learning from mistakes along the way.
Observing other artist perform live taking away what you liked and making it your own.
It’s not all about speeding up the process it about playing music and enjoying the journey. The most important skills and qualities are passion, commitment and devotion. You don’t have to be the most skilled musician you just have to be the most creative musician when you’re on stage and able to express your story.
Obstacles that were a challenge was working full time, family events, and coordinating with everyone’s schedule. Miraculously we still found a way to experience both music and our personal lives.

Lemon, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Lemon Disco was officially created in the summer of July 2017. Our hometown is San Antonio, TX better known as the Alamo City. We also consider Austin, TX a second home to us due to having many friends and it’s welcoming music scene.
The Original line up consisted of Jay Estrada (guitar/vocals), Josh Gonzalez (bass/drums), and Daniel Cza (drums/bass). Daniel and Jay were originally in another San Antonio local band called Lunate Spy but after the group disbanded they formed Lemon Disco as a two-man band that same year in 2017. Josh was the third piece to the puzzle and Lemon Disco now became a trio. Over the years members come and go and there was a few line up changes in the band. Currently it’s Jay Estrada (guitar/vocals) and Jared Felan (drums/vocals). The band is back to two members and we’re in search of a new bass player.
Lemon Disco’s music can be best described as a heavy sound with an aggressive sweet mix of perfection packing a sour punch. Crunchy distortion, smooth vocals, and thunderous percussion. Music influence is a collection of progressive/indie rock with hint of nineties rock nostalgia.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
There’s been a few occasions our followers have direct messaged us on our Instagram page sharing with us their personal experience when listening to our songs. Some have shared that our music has distracted them from deep depression, while others have shared that listening to our music while at work helps them get through the day. Another great experience was when a young individual reached out to us asking for guitar playing advice. After sharing some pointers, we also sent some short guitar tutorial videos to help with their creative song writing. Having said that, we would have to say that helping and inspiring others is definitely the most rewarding thing to us.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
One of the easiest ways to support artist is buying merchandise, attending shows and sharing our music with their friends. Yes, like and subscribing on any social media pages helps the band but having that personal experience can go a long way. Sometimes word of mouth opens a door full of opportunity.
