Alright, Leia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with talking about how you serve the underserved, because in our view this is one of the most important things the small business community does for society – by serving those who the giant corporations ignore, small business helps create a more inclusive and just world for all of us.
Leia’s Kids works with families and children battling childhood cancer. The following questions highlight what Leia’s Kids does to help bring hope and joy to families suffering.
Leia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Leia’s Kids is a non-profit charity, whose mission is to provide hope and support to children and their families battling childhood cancer. Leia’s Kids does this by directly donating to families battling childhood cancer. Leia’s Kids honors each child and their family through a Crown-A-Kid party. This is a time to celebrate and encourage the child and family in the biggest battle of their lives.
Each child receives a $1,000.00 donation from the Leia’s Kids Foundation.
Leia’s Kids is headquartered in North Texas but serves families nationwide.
Many of us know local children and families that have been affected by childhood cancer. Doctors and nurses work hard to cure patients’ cancers, but families need more than medical help to get them through this difficult time. This is the point at which the Leia’s Kids Foundation intervenes. The foundation provides direct financial assistance to children and their families who are facing the often overwhelming childhood cancer pathway.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Leia’s Kids is a nonprofit that donates directly to families going through childhood cancer. One of the sweet kids we helped was Ava. Glory Story: Ava, a four-year-old little girl, was battling Leukemia. Due to her family struggling to pay for her treatment they could not pay to have a new roof put on their house. Ava was unable to come home after treatment because of the leaks and mold. Children with cancer have extremely compromised immune systems making it impossible to fight off a simple cold. Leia’s Kids directly donated to Ava and her family and helped replace their roof.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Leia Hunt founded Leia’s Kids as an 18-year-old while in high school. Leia was Diagnosed with Retinoblastoma, a form of eye cancer, when she was two years old, Leia underwent 31 surgical procedures, multiple rounds of chemotherapy, and, ultimately, the insertion of a radioactive plaque in her left eye. The radiation ultimately defeated her cancer but left her blind in the left eye.
Today, Leia has turned the devastation of her childhood cancer into a testimony of hope and faith. Leia is passionate about sharing her story and has embraced the opportunity to speak at various events, including childhood cancer fundraising events, youth rallies, and events at the University of Pittsburgh.
At 22 years old, after serving two years as a missionary with Hard As Nails Ministries, Leia is working to make her dreams for Leia’s Kids come true by bringing goodness into a world of suffering.
