We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Leez Ochsner a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Leez, appreciate you joining us today. One of the most important things we can do as business owners is ensure that our customers feel appreciated. What’s something you’ve done or seen a business owner do to help a customer feel valued?
As business owners, it can be easy to get caught up in sales to close, projects to complete, and a life to live somewhere in between.
But one of the things my team and I have stayed true to at Freshly Brewed Copy is always remembering that behind every sale, every brand, and every single project is another person with a story, a lofty dream, and something even bigger that fuels them.
When you take the time to care and understand someone on a deeper level like that, you naturally become invested in their success like your own and do everything in your creative power to overdeliver on your promise.
My team and I also LOVE celebrating our clients throughout the year with thoughtful, unexpected client care packages that reflect that we’re always in their (creative) corner, how much we believe in their vision, and how much we truly value the relationship.
Since every client is unique, each gift is intentionally curated with custom-branded pieces like notebooks or coasters featuring their own branding, a book inspired by something they shared in our conversations, and of course, a little moment to slow down and savor their success with beautifully crafted chocolate, coffee, or tea.
But for us, it’s less about the items themselves per se, and more about going the distance to ensure our clients feel seen, heard, and supported in a meaningful way. Because, as Maya Angelou once said, people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
After working as a writer for leading brands like maurices, the Flint Group, and Scruples Professional Salon Products for over a decade, I founded Freshly Brewed Copy in 2020 to help impact-driven service providers step into the next chapter of their story with more clarity, conviction, and calm.
Today, Freshly Brewed Copy serves a diverse clientele from Duluth to Dubai, with brand messaging alignment, website copy and content creation, and design.
As a creative copywriting studio with design in mind, we focus on helping clients bring a deeply human element to their strategy, copy, and design so they can amplify their impact and further fuel their business.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
One of the most defining moments of resilience in my journey was taking a medical sabbatical after being diagnosed with breast cancer in June of 2024.
Stepping away from something I built from the ground up was incredibly daunting, scary, and challenging in ways I’m still unpacking, to say the least.
In many ways, my business was my baby. I had poured years into raising it, nurtured countless relationships with my clients, and had my hand in every client success story. But slowing down during that time taught me a lot about letting go of control, trusting my incredible brother, husband, and creative village of partners to step in, and most of all, it renewed my faith in ways I never saw coming.
When I returned to my business again, I had a new perspective on resilience altogether. Instead of pushing through at all costs like I once used to, I was able to tune into what my body needed, lean on my team more, and trust that God would help carry whatever I wasn’t ready to hold yet.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
One of the biggest pivots in my business came when I expanded from offering copywriting alone to integrating more in-depth brand strategy and design to serve my clients better.
While I loved supporting businesses through copywriting, I quickly noticed a gap. Even when the words were carrying the story forward, everything would quickly fall apart if the strategy wasn’t thought through from the get-go or the design didn’t intentionally support the story.
Over time, it became clear: it’s not just copy or design on their own that create meaningful connections, build trust, and move people to take action—it’s how they all intersect and work together.
From that point on, my team of creative partners and I began thinking more holistically about how we could better serve our clients by offering brand strategy, copywriting, and design under one virtual roof. It was this very pivot that put us on the map as a true thought partner solving for the bigger picture, rather than just one piece of the puzzle.
