We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Leah Groover. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Leah below.
Leah, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
I am SO happy to be a business owner. I can’t imagine my life without my dance studio. It has turned out to be one of the least stressful spaces in my life- it is as much my happy place as it is for clients and students. I only think about this when potential clients ask if it is my full time job, and I am so lucky that it is! Being a business owner comes from passion, and when that is the motivation, it is surely a win!

Leah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I own a dance studio for adults called Get Up And Dance! It’s a multi genre studio offering many styles and classes for any and all adults! I help spread joy through movement, simple as that! People look for and need dance for all sorts of reasons…socializing, physical activity, the desire to perform or compete, and more! I am so proud to have created a space that is welcoming to all, where we have built a community simply out of the interest to dance.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I had already been an independent teacher with my own LCC, teaching on my own for many years. I did this through renting space from other existing studios. After enough years of teaching and saving, I knew that opening my own space was the next only option, because I really didn’t’ want to base my life or business around the availability of other spaces.

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I simply have genuine interest in my clients’ lives. I talk to them when I can, as much in person as possible. Not because I feel that it’s good for business, but because I WANT to! we are all members of the “GUAD” squad…and I feel it So I touch base with everyone as much as I can when they are in the studio, and I think that community is what fuels the loyalty.
