We recently connected with Lawrenzo Jacobs and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Lawrenzo thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you get your first job in the field that you practice in today?
I started out just like any other ambitious lifter—grinding in the gym, preparing for my first bodybuilding competition, and studying to become a certified personal trainer. I hadn’t passed the test yet, but I was already applying everything I was learning to my own training.
Back then, it was just me, my $300 garage gym, and Planet Fitness. I believed it wasn’t about where you worked out, but what you did with what you had. That mindset fueled me. I proved it too—working out in my home gym and Planet Fitness, I placed 3rd out of 23 men at my very first competition. That moment didn’t just validate my training—it catapulted me forward.
After the show, I walked into Planet Fitness and shared my progress with the GM. They saw my discipline, self-leadership, and consistency, and gave me my first role as a personal trainer. From there, I connected with other managers, and soon I was working for the corporate office division of Planet Fitness, collaborating with staff, mentoring members, and building real impact.
A year and a few months later, I’m not just training members—I’m training other trainers, helping them elevate their game, and shaping the way Planet Fitness staff deliver results. I’ve seen growth everywhere: in myself, in the members I coach, and in the team around me.
Looking back, I can say this: what started as a personal experiment in discipline, self-belief, and strategy has grown into a platform to inspire, lead, and influence others in fitness. And I’m just getting started.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Lawrenzo, and I’m a classic physique bodybuilder, personal trainer, and a man committed to discipline, growth, and transformation—physically, mentally, and spiritually.
My journey into fitness wasn’t something I stumbled into casually. It was something I chose with intention. I reached a point in my life where I understood that if I wanted better outcomes, I had to become better myself. Fitness became my foundation—it gave me structure, purpose, and a measurable way to build discipline every single day. What started as a personal transformation turned into a lifestyle, and eventually into a profession where I now help others do the same.
I specialize in bodybuilding-style training, physique transformation, and mindset development. I offer personal training, both one-on-one and in group settings, along with guidance for individuals who want to take control of their health, improve their physique, and elevate their standard of living. I also create content that educates, motivates, and challenges people to hold themselves to a higher standard.
The main problem I solve is helping people break out of mediocrity—physically and mentally. A lot of people are stuck in cycles of inconsistency, lack of discipline, or simply not believing in themselves. I help them develop structure, accountability, and a mindset that aligns with results. I don’t just train bodies—I help build individuals who can withstand pressure, push through adversity, and become the best version of themselves.
What sets me apart is that I live what I teach. I’m not just talking about discipline—I practice it daily. I’ve competed, I’ve placed, and I continue to push myself to higher levels. I’ve trained in basic environments like Planet Fitness and a small home gym, proving that you don’t need perfect conditions to create an elite physique—you need commitment. My philosophy is rooted in real experience, not theory.
I’m most proud of the transformation I’ve created within myself and the ability to now pour that into others. From stepping on stage and earning medals in my first competition to training clients from all walks of life—including those with limitations—I’ve proven that growth is always possible. But beyond accolades, what I value most is impact. When someone tells me they’ve become more disciplined, more confident, and more in control of their life because of what I’ve taught—that’s success to me.
What I want potential clients and followers to understand is simple: this is not about quick fixes. This is about building a lifestyle that produces long-term results. If you’re willing to commit, I can guide you—but you have to show up. My brand represents discipline, consistency, and elevation. I’m here for those who are ready to take themselves seriously and move with purpose.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
One of my strongest qualities—outside of training and knowledge—is my ability to market, sell, and truly connect with people.
A lot of trainers know how to work out. A lot of trainers have certifications. But not everyone knows how to communicate value, how to capture attention, and how to turn a conversation into a commitment. I understand that if you can’t market yourself and you can’t sell your service, it doesn’t matter how good you are—people won’t experience what you have to offer.
I’ve developed real skill in face-to-face marketing, direct sales, and social engagement. I know how to approach people, how to read energy, and how to hold someone’s attention in a way that feels natural, not forced. That ability allows me to not only bring in new clients, but also build trust quickly. People don’t just buy training—they buy into you. They buy into your confidence, your certainty, and your ability to lead them.
And that’s something I take seriously. When I speak to someone, I’m intentional. I’m not just trying to “sell” them—I’m showing them what’s possible if they make a decision to invest in themselves. I help them see a version of themselves they may not even believe in yet.
What separates me even further is that I use these skills for myself. I don’t rely on luck, foot traffic, or hoping people come to me. I go out, I create opportunities, I start conversations, and I position myself as someone of value. That level of initiative gives me control over my growth in this industry.
Beyond that, I understand how to keep attention—not just get it. In today’s world, attention is everything. Whether it’s in person or through content, I know how to engage people, how to speak in a way that resonates, and how to make my message stick. That translates into stronger client relationships, better retention, and a deeper level of influence.
At the end of the day, training builds the body—but communication, marketing, and sales are what build the business. And I’ve made it a priority to master both.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
What’s helped me build my reputation in my market starts with me first applying everything to myself.
Before I ever asked someone else to trust me with their body or their goals, I had to learn the program, understand it, and fall in love with the process for myself. I didn’t just study fitness—I lived it. I went through the discipline of prepping, competing, and pushing my body to a high level. That gave me real experience, not just information.
From there, I got certified and continued to build on that foundation by coaching myself through multiple competition preps. That process taught me not only the physical side, but also the mental side—consistency, sacrifice, and execution over time. And I continue to educate myself and evolve, because I understand that growth never stops.
At the same time, I’ve been able to take what I’ve learned and apply it in a real-world setting, working within a corporate environment like Planet Fitness while also building my own presence. That combination has allowed me to reach a wide range of people—from beginners just getting started to individuals who want to take things to a higher level.
Another key factor is that I don’t hold information—I share it. Whether it’s through training, conversations, or content, I give people game they can actually use. That builds trust. People see that I’m not just about myself—I’m about helping others elevate too.
Looking forward, part of my vision is not just to train clients, but to help develop other trainers—to show them how to think independently, build their own business, and create real value in this industry.
At the core of it all, what’s separated me is simple: I put in the effort, I take action, and I operate at a higher standard. I don’t wait—I execute. And over time, that consistency, that discipline, and that real-life application is what has built my reputation.
