We recently connected with Laura Schulze and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Laura thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I l live in a very small town in Northern Mn, with a population of about 3200. Our town is a big tourist destination in the Summers, as well as certain times in the Winter. I have always been very savy with Social Media, and have always enjoyed taking pictures. I first got the idea of becoming a Social Media Manager after a visit with a close friend over lunch.
She was telling me about another friend she had who owned a bag company and wanted to go pick up her item. I tagged along to check it out, we ended up in a great conversation about business and advertising. Which brought us to how advertising has changed so much in the last 5-10 years and almost has completed gone over to Social Media and online. The owner of the shop had been saying how she didn’t know where to start or how, and it really just wasn’t her thing in general.
My other friend recommended I give her a hand and continued telling her how I am a Social Media whiz. We then and there decided this could be a position I could fill for her indefinitely. From there I branched out to other business owners and created The Social Loon.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I originally have been trained in Nursing, and Massage Therapy. Which I still do Massage Therapy and is a nice break from the computer. However, my main focus on the last 5 years has been The Social Loon. Starting with one small bag company and growing to working with around 20+ accounts whether short term contracts or long term.
I believe in working with small businesses and creators. I try to make my fees as affordable as possible for everyone and have a one on one connection. I want my clients to know I want their business to succeed and do well just as much as they do. I am passionate when taking on an account and provide the best advice I think is right for their marketing plan. Every account can be different, which keeps things fun!
I know running a small business can be challenging in itself with a million other things to do. I am happy I can take on this aspect for the brands I work with to make their day to day easier.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Audience and community on Social Media is far more important than the amount of followers you have. Having a core audience who you regularly interact with and give value to is going to get you further than numbers. I think this is something creators and brands are beginning to understand. If you’re looking to build something look at your current followers and how you can connect with them, the rest will evolve naturally from there.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
I would say Social Media is where I have connected with a majority of my clients. I constantly discovering new brands, and creators every day. I have had people either reach out to me or if I see their page is in need of a little help I will shoot them a friendly messages with no pressure added. I don’t like to be too salesy and let my clients make their own decisions. I would rather have a client that is excited to work with me rather than pressured.
