Hi LaRONZ, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I learned what I do now by having a Business Mentor who taught me how to become more business-oriented as a Creative. In order to speed up the learning curve, I would have put more concentration into the business aspect at the beginning of my journey. The most essential skills were simply opening up my mind to accept this newfound knowledge of separating my creative mind from my business mind. In understanding that Creatives are “emotional” while business is “non-emotional/rational”, which usually causes a conflict. The main obstacle that stood in my way was “ME”. Once I removed myself out of the equation and opened up my mind it was then that I became a practicing “Business Creative”.
LaRONZ, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Known as “The World’s Poetical Communicative Artist”, I am a Multidisciplinary Artist, mentor and the “Lifestyle Creator of the Business Creative”. I began my artistic journey as a singer/performer before extending my resume as a poet, actor, writer, curator and visual artist. It was years of honing my craftsmanship in these artistic disciplines that led to my entrepreneurial desires. Born as a natural hustler, I opened up a Mobile Art Gallery (LARONZMURRAY GALLERY) and started doing shows all over the country. This was the era of my journey before I became an artist where I sold other people’s artwork.
It was also during this time period that I began augmenting other artists’ artwork by creating “customize poetry” to enhance the artistic experience and sales agenda. This followed by creating other artistic products and birthed my foray into theater as I wrote, acted and produced a traveling theatrical experience turning “still art” into a “live experience “. Amazingly, in between this entrepreneurial endeavor, I was discovered on 34th Street & 7th (NYC) by the legendary photographer Jamel Shabazz. It was this expedition with the iconic photographer that led to becoming the “Original Jamel Shabazz Supermodel” with multiple appearances in magazines, coffee-table books, ad campaigns, and globally touring exhibitions. All which is documented in the forthcoming books, “BORN IN HERALD SQUARE – The Evolution of Revolutionary Artist, LaRONZ MURRAY)” and “ORIGINAL JAMEL SHABAZZ SUPERMODEL”.
As in many cases with artists/creatives, I established way more FAME than bank account. Unfortunately, due to the economic downfall in maintaining financial consistency, I was forced to come up with another “artistry” for survival. So, I quickly changed and became a visual artist and curator. However, even after greater fame and faster success things got financially slower and I started suffering from the “Starving Artist Syndrome”. After much frustration, I finally invested into a Business Mentor who taught me how to become more business-oriented as a progressive Creative..
Today, I am a Business Creative Mentor teaching and coaching other Creatives and Artistic Entrepreneurs how to turn their love of ART into a profitable and predictable business through my online university (Business Creatives University). I have a signature program called, “Business Creatives Blueprint Masterclass”. This program teaches students the all important“Methodology of the 3-D’s System”. Which is first making the “DISTINCTION” between your creative and business mind. Then “DETERMINING” what type of lifestyle you want with your goals and vision. Only to be completed by “DEPLOYING” the everyday tactics and strategy to make this all come into fruition.
However, I have a new campaign called, “Smashing The Starving Artist Syndrome” that gives Creatives the business tools to help them become a profitable business. My mission is to empower our Creatives with the implementation of business to propel their creativity to their highest potential. It is powerful to note that becoming a profitable ARTISTIC BUSINESS is more than just running paid advertising!
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My overall goal is to provide an influential global platform for Creatives to be successful. I call this the “The Creatives Funnel To Success” whereas I’m completing a pathway from middle school to mid-level career artists to flourish and succeed globally. It is my purpose to provide educational institutions from online universities to non-profit organizations that teaches Creatives both creativity and business, simultaneously.
This life journey’s intention is to give the POWER back to the Creatives to pave out their own destiny. Modern-day examples of “Creativity Meets Business “ mastery are Billionaire Business Creatives Tyler Perry, Jay-Z, and Kanye “Ye” West. Not to mention other masters such as Master P, Dame Dash, 50 Cents, Beyonce, Rick Ross, Diddy, Rhianna, Jessica Alba, Swizz Beatz & Alicia Keys, Queen Latifah, Madonna, Dre Dre, and the late great Pop Art legend Andy Warhol.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I think one thing society can do to support Creatives by providing more educational platforms to educate them business-wise. Most of our most talented creators are graduating out of art schools with very little business knowledge or how to run a business. More so, even though our Creatives are getting grants and funding (without the proper business knowledge), it is not enough to sustain them throughout their careers to flourish into their true creative mastery.
Metaphorically, it’s like people winning the lotto only to be broke within 5 years because of their lack of a financial background. Ideally once more “Creatives Meet Business” mastery occurs, we’ll start producing more Billionaire Creatives like Tyler Perry and others. It is our mission to be at the forefront of this new phenomenon of providing platforms to spark the minds of the next generation of Billionaire Business Creatives!
Lastly, as a Creative who has been through a sea of valleys and peaks, I have gathered the experience in solidifying my expertise in this category. I have devised a structured program through Business Creatives University (BCU) in understanding and helping Creatives and Artistic Entrepreneurs to become our upcoming generation of extraordinary “Business Creatives “.
