We recently connected with Lamar Adot Thomas and have shared our conversation below.
Lamar Adot , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
My most recent album title “33” was an concept based around what things will I be going thru to reach that age. I’m actually 32. I formatted the album 2 ways so content and context is key. Sunday Morning the first track and ending with Sunday Night which is 1 day but you can listen to it backwards starting from the last track Sunday Night. It gives you a week worth of material. Taking problems as depression, heart ache and simply questioning your gift. Its a lot to take in when an advance feeling of knowing time heals.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Being born and raised in the 9th Ward, Lamar AdoT Thomas has had the soulful and charismatic spirit and flavor of New Orleans running though his body since birth. At the age of fifteen, AdoT experienced first hand the life-changing events of Hurricane Katrina and proved to himself that his determination could get him through any trials life may bring. After facing extreme adversity on his journey to safety,
Fast forward to current day: AdoT continues to live up to the promise he made to himself years ago; leave a legacy as a prolific, creative, and uniquely authentic artist. He has now spent years creating impactful music, and continues to be an example of the audacious resilience of New Orleans by turning the struggle and tragedy he experienced as a Hurricane Katrina survivor into inspiration and motivation to fuel his passion.
AdoT identifies himself with a distinct sound and bold perspective all his own. With his unmatched versatility and strong work ethic, he continues to build fans and name recognition not only locally, but internationally, with each project he puts out. AdoT has an extremely large catalog of music. With 10 full albums of music thru out the years. You can feel and hear the growth.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect is being able to freely express whatever emotions into your music. For me that plays a big roll because as a song writers conveying the correct feeling is vital. To be able to create something and have a listener say I feel the same way for me is total win.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My life story in general is one of resilience. From managing the process of surviving hurricane Katrina to moving and staying in a new city. Even to the present day dealing with mental health. Dealing with past relationships. Time heals all. Sometimes it may seems like the sun isn’t going to come back… but it will. Being strong thru whatever your going thru. It will all soon past and later you can look back with determination because you know as a person you can make it.
