Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lala Klosterman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Lala, thanks for joining us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents taught me the meaning of hard work not through lectures, but through the way they lived every single day. As immigrants from Mexico, they didn’t have much and never earned a lot, but they always made sure there was food on the table and a roof over our heads, even if our home was small. They faced long hours and difficult jobs without complaining, pushing forward with quiet strength and pride. Watching them sacrifice, stay consistent, and give their best no matter how tough life got showed me what dedication truly looks like. Because of them, I learned resilience, responsibility, and the drive to create a good life just as they did for me.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’ve been a hairstylist for over 20 years, beginning my career at age 17 when I enrolled in beauty college to pursue the dream I’d had since I was a little girl. From the start, I embraced all aspects of the beauty industry. Haircuts, color, makeup, waxing, and eyebrow shaping, and even had opportunities to work on fashion shows and bridal styling. Over the years, I’ve refined my craft while staying passionate, creative, and committed to delivering high-quality work. Today, I specialize in precision hair cutting for both men and women of all hair types, bringing decades of experience, technical skill, and a genuine love for the industry to every client who sits in my chair. My passion for this industry runs deep and doing hair isn’t just my job, it’s truly a part of who I am. I’ve dedicated my entire life to this craft, and I honestly can’t imagine doing anything else, because this is what I’ve learned, lived, and loved for as long as I can remember. Every client who sits in my chair matters to me, and I want them to feel valued, understood, and confident that they’re in the hands of someone who genuinely cares. I take pride in staying current with new trends, techniques, and styles so I can always offer the best, most updated looks. My goal is that my passion shows through my work by every haircut, every transformation, every interaction.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I built my clientele the old-school way, long before social media existed. In the beginning, I passed out business cards at gyms, local events, and even apartment complexes near my salon to welcome new residents to the area. I always made sure people had something to remember me by, whether it was a shampoo sample attached to a card or a small gift card for first-time clients. I participated in spa days, community events, and anything that helped me get my name out there and show my work. That determination and consistency helped me grow a loyal following. Today, I continue to build through relationships and word-of-mouth, offering a referral program where existing clients receive a discount when they send someone new my way.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Social media is essential for hairstylists today because clients want to see what you offer, how you work, and the quality of your results before they sit in your chair. Your online presence becomes your visual portfolio by showing your style, your skill, and your personality. It’s one of the easiest and most effective ways to attract new clients because people can instantly connect with your work and decide if they relate to your aesthetic. Social media allows potential clients to get a feel for who you are, what you specialize in, and the overall experience they can expect in your salon, making it a powerful tool for growth and visibility in the beauty industry.
