Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lakeisha Milstrey. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Lakeisha, thanks for joining us today. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
I managed my own page. Being that I’m still looking to re invent blkpg and elevate it; I’d rather handle it with care at this point. I’m not sure if I’ll ever put a team on blkpg. It’s still fresh and growing. There’s a bit of anxiety there when involving others.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
The hardest part about my free promoting page is that my followers go up and down and my free promoting is exactly what it is. (Free)
Eventually I’ll bring back my tip jar once I’ve updated the page but, networking is more important and that can bring myself more opportunities in the future. It’s hard enough to get our own people to support black businesses at times; how I see it is let me help by showing you “keep your money ” I just want to see you win”.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
Many people tell me about how much money I should be making and to start charging business owners for promotion. I won’t, never will. I hear the stories and money invested. My way of giving back is to show them that I’m here to support them. I want to see local businesses, local artists, local chefs, designers, creators in general be seen by as many people, pages as possible. Even to see local businesses network with each other because of blkpg is rewarding. There are a lot of ways God can reward you besides money. Stand on faith and what you believe.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
BLACK CULTURE IS WHAT KEEPS ALOT OF OTHER CULTURES MAKING MONEY AND CREATING LEGACY FOR THEIR PEOPLE.
WHY NOT SUPPORT BLACK LOCAL/BLACK BUSINESSES IN GENERAL SO THEY CAN CREATE THEIR LEGACY AS WELL.
WE HAVE TO SUPPORT EACH OTHER. I’M DRIVIN BY KEEPING BLACKNESS ALIVE.
