We recently connected with La Trisa Edwards and have shared our conversation below.
Hi La Trisa, thanks for joining us today. What were some of the most unexpected problems you’ve faced in your business and how did you resolve those issues?
The most unexpected problems that I faced has been in the last 23months. It started in March 20 20 when the pandemic reared. I never assume that after being in business for 26 years that I would no longer be working 5 to 6 days a week. The entire world as we know it completely shut down due to this devastation. And I was not ready! This event has taught me to definitely get with the times so digitally was the way to go to keep your business running. In February 20 21 Texas had a freeze that totally took out my business as well as my home. I had both places to flood on the same day. Total devastation spiritually ,physically, socially ,and emotionally. Fortunately my customer base was phenomenal , my family was outstanding , and my faith was the root of my stability. Even though our state was not completely open the few of my faithful customers sustained my business and my spouse and I was able to eventually make our house a home again. Even losing what seems like a lifetime of personal things that so worked hard for. Although this was not a fast process I thank God for blessing us through this journey. I learned that having an online business throughout this was definitely a plus for business owners. As for as me personally nothing in life is guaranteed to last forever so make every day count and love and treat people kind.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is LaTrisa Edwards I’ve been a stylist for 36 years, And a business owner for 26 years. I’ve always love to create and design. I have a full service salon and I carry an array of products such as Ashtae, Influence,Joico,Sebastian Nioxion, and Bosley just to name a few. I also have gifts and accessories from the African-American Expression and I am Paparazzi Consultant and I carry the Paparazzi Jewelry and accessory line. Healthy hair and working with alopecia areata clients is one of my passions. Making people look and feel good gives me great joy. One of my best assets I would say being genuine and truly caring about others caring about their time and giving him the best service that I have to give you. I am most proud to be a wife, a mother as well as a friend. When people leave my salon I want them to feel like that they have had a great experience as well as awesome service. But most of all to look and feel their best!!!!
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The lesson that I had to unlearn was to understand the times change and a lot of times you have to update with the times. Comfort zone is just that ….. you become comfort And stagnant. Sometimes you have to step out of it in order to get to another level. It may not feel great or is easy but the rewards are sometimes endless!!!
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
During these last 24 months I will admit i have wanted to throw in the towel more than a few times …..But by the grace of God I am still standing!!! I try to learn from all the obstacles that I am going thru so that I may be able to help some other small business owner.
