Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Krystal Yates. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Krystal, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Being successful is about mindset. Focus and drive are important, but knowing you are going to be successful is even more important. You have to make the decision you aren’t going to fail. There is a story about navy general who makes his soldiers burn all the boats after they land on enemy soil. When asked why, he says “The only way off this beach is now forward, we can’t afford to fail”. I use that mindset in my business regularly asking myself what it will take to move forward another step. Then I do it. When failure is not an option, you work harder and more creatively.
Krystal, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have worked in small businesses most of my career with a focus on people. Small businesses have unique challenges when it comes to hiring and managing great teams. I decided I wanted to help as many businesses as I could, which meant starting my consulting business. That led me to also work with job seekers. I am able to pull on my expertise on both sides of the hiring table to improve the search for both my small businesses and my candidates in transition. This has led to a lot of insight into what works well and what doesn’t creating success for all my clients. I’m blessed to be in a position where I’m helping others every day. This is a frustrating process for so many. I’m passionate about simplifying this process and bringing clarity to my clients.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Integrity. One of our core values is to always do the right thing. Sometimes that means turning down business or pointing potential clients in another direction. That can be hard when you are just starting out, but it has proved to be the right thing time and time again. It allows us to focus on the right clients, and to get everyone the help that they need – whether from us or from someone else.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Good communication. Clarity. If your team understands their role, their impact, and what is expected of them, they tend to perform better. We always share the wins. We also have fun together. Our communication has changed drastically over the past several years as we’ve gone almost 100% remote, but we work hard to keep those lines of communication open.
