I’m Krystal Phan, founder of Markester, a digital marketing agency in LA. Our mission is to empower small businesses in the beauty industry to scale using the power of social media. This mission is deeply personal to me because, as a business owner, I’ve faced the challenges of multitasking and the high costs of traditional marketing. Social media, with its affordability and vast growth potential, became my solution.

I started Markester not only to achieve business success but also to fulfill my passion for assisting others. By leveraging our expertise in digital marketing, we aim to make a meaningful impact on the lives of fellow entrepreneurs. How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?

rowing up in Vietnam, my passion for art led me to pursue a career in design. However, as I progressed, I realized I could do more than just design. So, I made a pivotal decision to move to the United States for a master’s in business and marketing. While working for different companies, I felt something was missing – a deeper sense of purpose. It was during this introspective phase that I discovered my calling: starting my own business.

This pivot marked a significant turning point in my life. I founded Markester, a digital marketing agency with a mission to help fellow business owners thrive. It allowed me to combine my creative background with my business knowledge, creating a fulfilling path that’s dedicated to making a meaningful impact in the lives of entrepreneurs.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?

When I started my business, I faced the daunting challenge of acquiring clients. To address this, I took on interns and spent significant time training them to meet the required standards. It was a demanding and time-consuming process.

Additionally, I encountered demanding clients, which presented their own set of challenges. These experiences taught me vital lessons about perseverance. I recognized that while starting a business was tough, maintaining it was even harder. Despite the difficulties, I remained committed to my vision, continuously improved my skills, and pushed forward with unwavering determination. These early obstacles were instrumental in building my resilience as an entrepreneur.
