We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kristine Reed. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kristine below.
Kristine, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea?
First, let me say beauty itself has always been a passion of mine. I started with two brick and mortar locations. Unfortunately, I had to shut down due to overhead costs. Which forced me back into Corporate America. Then the pandemic hit. I knew I needed to do something but what? I felt life was forcing me to look within. What am I most passionate about? What is my calling? What is needed that others aren’t offering? How can I intertwin my answers and provide a service to the community? I kept in contact with my regular clients who still wanted their brows, lashes and makeup done. I mean none of us wanted to be stuck in the house. If we had to sit, why not sit with a pretty face. It dawned on me! I found a need and desire that brought me back to my passion! I could provide mobile beauty services considering the rest of the world was shut down. That is when Mobile Beauty Bar ATL was born.
People were afraid to leave their homes but wanted to still look good. Next step… Let’s make it official. I completed the EIN, LLC, opened a business bank account AND TRADEMARK. I emphasize trademarking because I wanted everyone to know MBBA is official, ready and about business! Mobile Beauty Bar ATL provides top customer service for makeup, hair, and lash extensions. Customers request a makeup artist and/or hairstylist within 72 hours in advance. We arrive onsite ready to provide the best service to our clients. There isn’t an event too big or small for us to tackle. During the holidays of 2020 we had 1 makeup artist taking on appointments. Soon after, spring of 2021, we added 2 additional artists to the team. As of today, we have 5 artists and are expanding rapidly. We can offer at least 2 to 3 artists for large events. Mobile Beauty Bar ATL is making its mark!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
I am a Chicago native. I came to ATL for grad school at Clark Atlanta University. After leaving CAU, I purchased into a cosmetic franchise company called Flori Roberts. I opened my first store in September 2014. I hustled and paid off my dues for the franchise within the first year. I produced $60K in sales within the first 90 days of opening my franchise. I truly thought I was where I was supposed to be in life, and it felt amazing. I also had a kiosk for two years in Arbor Place mall before opening my own beauty bar salon in downtown Douglasville. As mentioned before, due to the overhead cost, after a year I shut down the salon and went back to corporate America. I worked in HR for major corporations such as Delta, Northside Hospital, and Uber. I was rebuilding my foundation and personal development. I felt I was a true success story. I was happy and I knew my family was super happy and proud of my accomplishments.
Unfortunately, when the pandemic hit, I was laid off. I was devastated, frustrated and to be honest at my wits end with everything. All the sacrifices and here I was at ground zero! I needed the frustration, tears, and uncertainty to push the drive out of me. They say it’s either in you or on you. Well, I knew it was in me. Beauty is my passion. It was time to put in the work. It was either sink or swim. I am thankful to my clients that were still reaching out for my services. I came up with a plan and executed. It is from there I came up with Mobile Beauty Bar ATL. The concept made sense with the pandemic. Businesses were shutting down left and right. My thoughts were “Why not take the business to the clients?”. I got to work immediately. I created my brand, wrote a plan, and started implementing the process.
Now it is 2022, our clientele is extensive and continues to grow. Although we are in the Southeast, we have clients that have flown us all over the world. We are continuing to take over the state of Georgia. We are constantly expanding with artists and services. We are thrilled to have mastered a professional beauty platform that services the community.
Has your business ever had a near-death moment? Would you mind sharing the story?
One thing that is detrimental and very important to the success of a mobile beauty business is being on time and absolutely NO cancellations. I will live and die by my stance on not canceling an appointment. In a nutshell, we deliver and complete all appointments with a proper deposit. As with any company, do your employees always show up for shifts? NO!! It is so funny and ironic you should ask that question because we recently had an employee call out an hour before the scheduled appointment. I was on my way to another appointment an hour away. The employee said she forgot and was out of town. “OUT OF TOWN?” I was about to lose it! LOSE IT, YOU HEAR ME! I screamed! In my mind, how do you not check your schedule for making out of town plans? You have an entire wedding and other appointments for the weekend.
I know you are like, “Kristine what did you do?” First, I pulled myself together. The appointment she forgot was one of our regulars. I immediately called to inform her I would be coming instead of the other artist. I apologize for any inconvenience and gave her a discount for being late. I was super grateful the appointment was only 16 minutes away from my actual appointment. Thankfully, I was able to call another artist to assist with the wedding happening the next day. Therefore, everything worked out. I can truly say my ancestors ALWAYS have my front, back, left, and right. It’s simple. I am truly blessed and highly favored. I love what I do. I love and appreciate being able to do what I love.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Customer service, customer service, and more customer service! We accommodate all of our clients and make sure we go above and beyond to provide outstanding beauty applications while delivering an amazing experience. It is really that simple and self-explanatory; you book Mobile Beauty Bar ATL (MBBA), and you will not be disappointed.
