Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kristi Hujik. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Kristi, thanks for joining us today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
My career as a health and performance coach has been constantly evolving. Working in a clinical setting with thousands of clients gave me the confidence and a large sample size to develop a methodology that works. When I went out on my own and became a Level 3 Integrative Health Practitioner I started creating my own business and using the knowledge I gained but through my own lense. There is so much impostor syndrome in this business and sometimes the best way to start is to start. It may sound so simple but you can’t wait for the right time or until everything is in line. There are people that need this kind of help and my best advice is take the leap, you won’t regret it.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’ve been a coach my entire life whether it was on the basketball court, soccer field, or as a personal trainer. My “side hustle” took a turn when I got diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2017. I was determined to understand why this happened and fix the root of the problem. I developed a strong why and a vision and I committed to controlling the controllables. For me, I focus on 4 things daily – my nutrition, my movement, my sleep, and my mindset. I’m proud to say I’m not on any medication and have not suffered any further autoimmune damage from the disease. If we can listen to our bodies, replenish what’s depleted and remove any toxicities our bodies can heal. Many people come to me wanting to change supplements or do lab testing and those things are great but we cannot heal until we focus on what we do day-to-day. We are what we repeat. I would say the one word that describes the problem I solve for people is depletion. We are depleted in mind, body and spirit and at times just surviving vs. thriving. This is why I created my proprietary methodology called The Capacity Ecosystem™ – this uses focus, energy, and resilience to help increase our ability to perform each day. I’ve used this for kids, athletes, autoimmune clients, and businesses. We tend to overcomplicate things so I always start with what are you doing each day. I am currently writing and book on this and speak to schools, organizations, and businesses about this proprietary system. The magic is in our daily habits, and the best news is we can start today. I’m also now a Jon Gordon Certfied Speaker and Trainer because Jon’s messages about positivity and leadership have been critical in my life and still are to this day. This is so important to me I’ve seen negativity and mindset undo a lot of great things.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Resilience is one of the pillars of my Capacity Ecosystem™ and it is all about the ability to adapt to change. When I was diagnosed with autoimmune disease I had to look at every area of my life. Every activity, thought, action…is either depleting resilience or building it up. For me my spirituality and understanding this is all in God’s hands and that He has given me the strength, the direction, and the knowledge to be able to help others. When people know I was diagnosed with this dreaded disease and came out on the other side I think it inspires them. I would not let this disease change my life and I was willing to do whatever I needed to in order to continue to live the wonderful active life that I do. Just after being diagnosed it was the support of my family that inspired me. My husband said three simple words that have propelled me ever since “we got this”.

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
To succeed in this field you need to be caring, empathetic and able to meet a person where they are at. At first as a classic upholder when I was coaching I didn’t understand how someone could know this would help them and make them feel better and yet not do it. I definitely need to understand how each person would respond. I read Gretchen Ruben’s “Four Tendencies” to help me understand how to coach different personality types and it’s been so valuable. It’s also important to understand that we can be the best coaches in the world but if the person isn’t motivated or in the right place to make a change it may not happen. It’s hard because we want to help everyone but you have to just keep planting seeds and hoping that they will understand how to and want to change.
