We recently connected with Krista Baxter and have shared our conversation below.
Krista, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today The first dollar your firm earns is always special. We’d love to hear about how you got your first client that wasn’t a friend or family.
When my first client came in it was a huge, fire works, a blazing type of day! In my mind I hit the jackpot and no one knew it but, me! I felt like I had just hit the tip of the ice berg and my journey as a hairstylist and make up artist was just beginning and about to be huge! I believed in myself and felt the need to make people feel and look beautiful everyday. Everybody needs it. I think that for some reason or another I observed a calling for this work because, I saw that no matter who you are, you still need reassurance and that same type of reassurance can truly make a positive impact on a professional to a young teens day, year, or month.
. My beautiful first client came from a local grocery store in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Back in 2007 we used business cards and menus. I went to every store and carried a stack of cards with me every where I went, just in case I captured someone’s attention and I was prepared to give them my information. I think the vibe was a little bit different back in 2007 also. I have to say that there were more people looking up and observing other people maybe with a bit more curiosity or awareness, and someone approaching you and saying hello or you look nice today or I love your hair where did you get it done wasn’t unheard of. It actually happened quite often and that is how it was then and honestly I still believe of the same today. The proof is in the pudding in this industry. Your work is on display with your name on it at all times. So, no pressure! But, that’s how I did it! I went to local shops, coffee shops, the Ross park mall, grocery stores, etc. and I made it happen. Little by little, one by one people started to come in. The universe has treated me pretty well I would say and my work has allowed me to develop a sense of control and a heart warming clientele that anybody with the opportunity would cherish. I love what I do!

Krista, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi my name is Krista Jee I am a salon owner and brand owner in Warren County Pennsylvania. I’ve had the fortunate opportunity to work with various artists from musicians to actors and actresses in the film and movie industry. What sets me apart is my motivation to continue my work on developing the culture of healthy beauty and combining it with art. I think that it is important to not only love what you do but, to show the beautiful person sitting in your chair that there are great professional products out there also that not only benefit you skin but, enhance your beauty as well.
My website is www.shophealingbeauty.com and you can see more of my work on www.kristajee.com
You can also book an appointment or consultation through that as well!
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing your clientele is once again in the detail of the work itself. I think if you bring consistency and a lot of care along with your art then your clientele will blossom quickly.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
In my experience the best source of new clients are always and will be word of mouth. Social media is also good for some awareness and maybe giving any type of information but, the proof is always somewhere in the pudding.
