We recently connected with Krissie Simek and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Krissie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
This is an amazing question and being a business owner has always been a dream and the goal for what I hoped to achieve. Although a “regular job” can prove to have a more consistent financial stability, benefits and a day-to-day typical agenda, it simply doesn’t complete the overall design for the life and career I aspire to have. I find so much passion and delight for celebrating couples and their milestone wedding days, developing and growing my team and enhancing my business, all while taking control of my schedule for a work-life balance. Maintaining a work-life balance as a business owner, wife and a mother that has the flexibility to take unplanned trips to the Zoo, the beach, etc., and enjoy the random adventures for what the day will hold, is a gift that being a business owner has given me. Playing the balancing act, and continuing to excel and push the boundaries of success for White Lace of course has its pressures but it’s like a puzzle; simply by turning and adjusting the pieces or focusing on a different part can bring new light to invigorate growth. This has been especially true when the pandemic posed to challenge and push everyone globally. The wedding and event industry was dramatically affected, and couples were heartbroken when their idealistic dreams of a wedding were crushed; weddings had to be postponed several times, or re-imagined, and in some cases, cancelled all together, yet, oddly, it has been incredibly inspiring. An oxymoron you could say, but keeping couples focused on the glimmer of celebration, and keeping their love and commitment at the top of mind, while trudging through the unknown personally and professionally, was invigorating. Redirecting the fears of our pandemic-induced world and keeping clients focused on walking in the joys of planning, celebrating and the incredible story of getting married has been goose-bump worthy to say the least. I not only strive to focus my clients on the happiness and joys of planning a wedding regardless of what is going on, but I strive to pave the path and mentor my team to do so as well. As a business owner, helping my team to achieve and exceed their goals, through guiding them with communication, focus, optimism and trust to be empowered, is what also makes me happy to be a business owner. It is with all of this said that I am incredibly fortunate, and for me celebrating the success of business, guiding clients, mentoring my remarkable team, as well as prioritizing being a wife and a mother is pinnacle. In my experience, this isn’t accomplished to the same degree in a “regular job” and completes me in so many unimagined ways, and that is what makes it incredibly special.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
White Lace Events and Design is a social event planning and design business that was established in 2014 and was built with a plentiful background of event planning experience and connections within the industry that it soared as a dream realized and has continued to be so. White Lace primarily focuses on the celebrations of weddings, and how best to bring the visions of wedding dreams to life in the smoothest and most enjoyable way possible. We communicate to best mirror the needs of our clients and I typically find that it is a well-balanced mix of experienced-professionalism, effective conversation and a dash of humor every step of the way. We are so lucky to have clients that allow us to build a relationship that helps us to fully immerse ourselves to intentionally design and plan a milestone, momentous day with them. It is important for us to find the connection with our clients to most successfully interpret their vision, build a “dream team” to evolve it, and orchestrate and design a wedding that builds upon them as a couple and brings their traditions, family and friends together and united. In addition to this, White Lace instructed the Weddings and Social Events class for six years to the undergrads at San Diego State University and has been awarded some of the highest accolades, published in multiple blogs and publications, as well as planned and designed events annually for prestigious marketing partners within the industry.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Honesty, focus and communication is what I believe helped to build my reputation within my market. Additionally, this wedding and event industry is not for the weak of heart but letting go of an ego and being open arms for change and adjustments is mandatory in my eyes and has helped me to pursue the success of my business today.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
Social media outlets, such as Instagram have been an amazing way to keep in touch with past clients, current clients and future ones. For the past and current clients, it helps us to follow them and actively participate on their posts and/or stories. We get to see their continued dreams as a couple through achieving career goals, growing a family, and pursing new adventures together that we can “like”, “comment” and also post a photo of their wedding day or meeting to get them to engage on our end too. Our brand’s focus and philosophy is to build relationships, which helps immensely with trust in the planning and wedding day coordination. By actively showing we care through resources such as this, exemplify that.

What an inspirational article – Krissie appears to be completely immersed in her industry and obsessed with the success of her clients! Who wants a regular job after reading this! I especially loved the part where she states: “Redirecting the fears of our pandemic-induced world and keeping clients focused on walking in the joys of planning, celebrating and the incredible story of getting married”
Thanks for the joy of appreciation for marriage and life.
