We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful KOWKOW. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with KOWKOW below.
KOWKOW, appreciate you joining us today. Has your work ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized?
I can’t even count on my hand how many times people mischaracterized my artistry and who I am as a person. Due to the fact that I am very vibrant and loud with my wardrobe selections people tend to judge my sexuality.
There was a time when I was at an album release party in Miami where i was set to perform. A group of guys on set approached me with the intension of setting me “straight”. They wanted to fight because of my appearance online stating that my style does not represent their image/culture and should not be allowed to showcase on their platform. This was a culture shock for myself as I embrace others and assumed this was full circle and I showed up based off of love. At the end we all basically squashed it and they apologized stated that they misjudged. Pretty much everywhere i show up my style and appearance is a target, but I am fearless when it comes to creativity.

KOWKOW, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
The artist was born in Haiti and moved US at the age of 17 years old. KOWKOW has struggled with stuttering his whole life. He found a safe place to create and speak freely without feeling as though he had to fight which was music. With that being said KOWKOW started his music career just writing poems someone heard his poems and invited him to the studio he was in Haiti at the time.
KOWKOW keeps a calm and peaceful environment in order to maintain his focus especially when he is creating. The Artist started off rapping in creole and quickly switched to singing. He discovered Afrobeats in his 20’s and has been hooked ever since. He enjoys the melodies and the natural vibes it brings. KOWKOW’s creative outlook in regards his style is very unique. Its foundation is very loud with vibrant colors yet often soft spoken. He has no problem with dressing outside the box which he feels sets himself apart from others. “I just want my fans and others to know that no matter how rough your upbringing is or if you struggle with your own demons there will always be a space for you if you just follow your dreams, No one but you can tell you no or you can’t.” KOWKOW states that he is proud of himself for never falling to negativity and giving up on himself. “One thing is for sure I never gave up and I encourage other to do the same.” KOWKOW represents fun, love, authentic, and energetic art.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Due to not only my speech but my style of fashion I was told I will never get far or make it. Creating and building my own mental to fully focus on me and the choices I wanted to choose for my career was hard to maintain. I had friends and family members questioning who I was and what I should be doing especially coming from Haiti the outlook is different. Many people doubted my creativity and I always told them to just sit back and watch. I had a time in my career where I lost everything and could of stopped but I didn’t I fought to this moment and I’m more successful.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
To put my family in a better positive as well as myself. There is nothing like being able to provide and create happy memories for others. My goal in life is to provide and my mission is to maintain.
