We were lucky to catch up with Knowbody recently and have shared our conversation below.
Knowbody, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
I’m blessed to be able to say that I have been able to earn a full-time living from my art for the better part of the last five years. It absolutely fluctuates and navigating the ups and downs of entrepreneurship is difficult for many reasons but the ability to march to the beat of my own drum is worth every headache. The beginning of the journey looked like a lot of doubt, a lot of analysis paralysis, a lot of procrastination and disbelief in the process. I sought out as much information and mentorship wherever I could until I realized that I truly couldn’t progress until I believed in myself and took steps forward without the need to be perfect. The perfectionist mindset is one that is detrimental to success because rarely does something need to be perfect to be effective. I do my best these days to put progress over perfection.
When I began, I was so concerned with what I was going to leave behind if I chose a specific project to focus on. What I would do differently if I started today is do literally everything that my heart and mind wants to do and then see what brings me the most joy and results and keep doing that. So much time can be wasted in thinking and planning when that time can be more effectively utilized in trial and error.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Knowbody, or KB, and I am your favorite artist & digital creator. I’m a published author, published editor, published photographer and published videographer. I both wrote and voiced the main character of an educational cartoon debuting soon. I have written and performed my own songs and poetry all across the US and abroad in London, The past two years I have taken Twitch by storm and reached the top 1% of Twitch streamers and I teach aspiring streamers how to begin their journey and build their communities on the platform.
My journey on Twitch has been special to me because it is the first time that I have been able to feel like I succeeded on my own without any collaborative effort. I worked day and night to learn OBS, overlays, alerts, how to interact with my audience, Discord, and whatever else would improve the stream experience. I chose to help people achieve their goals on Twitch because of how much it changed my life to grow the absolutely incredible community that I have cultivated and grown over the last few years.
I never wanted to choose between music, or writing scripts, or being a front-facing personality on socials, so I do it all. I’m on all music apps as Knowbody Raps, all of my videos are under the moniker Knowbody Shoots and all of my Twitch streams are under the name KnowbodyBeatYou. Common themes in my work include introspection, wordplay, vivid imagery, love, and freedom. I named myself Knowbody because who truly does what I do? Knowbody,

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
The Four Hour Work Week by Tim Ferriss and The Power of Your Subconscious Mind are the two most impactful books to my journey. Tim Ferriss breaks down the concept of being able to afford your life without being tethered to a particular job or location. I have always struggled with building empires for others while having no time, energy or resources to build my own. The Four Hour Work Week helped validate my perspective of what living should look like for me,
The Power of Your Subconscious Mind helped me to visualize and manifest the life that I wanted on a deeper level. I do believe that you have to be able to see it and believe it to achieve it and impressing your desires on the subconscious mind is a powerful method of bringing about those results. It sounds like some metaphysical nonsense but the read was pretty logical and meshed well with the scientific explanations. I recommend both strongly for those traveling the path of creator or entrepreneur.

How did you build your audience on social media?
This is probably going to sound like the most cliche advice in the world, but I’ll do my best to make it more fresh and actually applicable. The best thing you can do is be yourself, honestly and truly. Before you sigh and roll your eyes, let me explain. If you do not like or believe in what you’re doing or saying, it will not last very long. Sometimes creator will see what is working for other creators and try to copy that, even when it does mesh well with their personality, morals, vision, or spirit. Of course there will be more entertaining and engaging people out there. The point isn’t to try and be who they are, the point is to attract your tribe by spotlighting what makes you unique. We will never know who will relate to us and enjoy our content if we try to copy what others are doing. The hobbies, the fashion, the music, the food that you love, share it with the world and see how your tribe rallies around you.
