Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to KLAXX. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi KLAXX, thanks for joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
My biggest risk was dropping out of 4 year college to move to LA alone at 18 years old and go to music production school! This was my moment where I was all in on pursuing music as my career. There was no going back for me so I put my whole heart into music, and I have since that moment.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m AJ Espiritu, and I go by KLAXX. I’m a music producer, artist, songwriter, DJ, and sound engineer among many other things. I first got into electronic music when I was a sophomore in high school. I went to a Skrillex show in San Diego where I grew up and it was my first rave. Seeing him up there and playing these crazy songs made me want to get into DJing. I would DJ in my bedroom and DJ parties all high school. My freshman year of college I picked up producing my own music and a friend of mine convinced me to drop out of college and go to music production school with him in LA. I took the risk and went music full time and I’ve never looked back!
I now write/produce music and perform all of the country. I think something that sets me apart from other artists is I always try to stay true to myself and make music that I want to make, and not follow trends. I’m so proud of the artist that I’ve become, and I’m finally writing my debut album right now that will be the embodiment of everything I am as an artist, producer, performer, and person as a whole.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I think the most rewarding thing about being an artist is being able to have full creative control over the music, art, and content that I put out into the world. Not many industries you get to do this, and I never take that for granted.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my fanbase and social media following solely from the music I made and showing the person I really am. I think that’s so important because I see a lot of people making content that is very “trendy” or not true to them and who they are as an artist or person, and I think its much more rewarding gaining fans that truly love the music and love you, and not for trends.
