We were lucky to catch up with Kirby Slager recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kirby, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with a fun one – what’s something you believe that most people in your industry (or in general) disagree with?
I come from a background in Improv comedy, performing on stages in New York City, Chicago, and Los Angeles. My 16-year career span was in service to the moment, in the UN-known. Through my years stepping on stage with a completely blank slate, I learned that it is when we are most present and willing to find comfort in uncertainty that true success lives. This level of trust and faith in the moment has lead me to an assurance in myself that the best outcomes aren’t always going to come from planning and projecting. I live and breathe into the moment with my Career, knowing with full faith and trust that what is for me will always find me, and that I am here to serve what is needed in the moment. Many have said this is an irresponsible way to do business, all I can say is that it has lead me to opportunities I would have never been able to perceive through planning.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
With a dynamic background in Comedy, I bring a unique blend of creativity and empathy to the realm of breath work, movement and sound therapy. In 2016, as I was seeking tools to navigate significant life changes, I immersed myself in personal breath work & movement practices, quickly discovering profound benefits in my own mental clarity and emotional well-being.
I quickly became committed to sharing these insights; developing a movement class in Los Angeles, assisting participants in reconnecting with the JOY of the moment through their physical expression while easing mental distractions. In 2019, I toured colleges nationwide as the keynote speaker for the “Positive Body Image Symposium,” advocating for self-awareness and holistic wellness. This journey concluded with a celebrated one-woman show in the Los Angeles theatre scene, further exploring themes of body positivity, identity/parts-work and mindfulness.
Since 2020, I have found myself in the Fitness & Wellness space, helping bring joy & ease to healing our relationship to self. I’ve guided thousands of beautiful people looking for a different way to heal & embrace the wisdom inherent in their own bodies. One of my favorite sayings is that “healing doesn’t have to hurt.” I have found much grater healing in joy, play & allowing myself to feel GOOD.
My passion for facilitating calm and ease led me to the development of RESTORE Breath in early 2024 for Breathe Degrees (Carlsbad, CA); a down-regulated breathing technique designed to help individuals return to a state of tranquility amidst the demands of modern life.
I believe my rich experience in performance and wellness positions me uniquely to offer engaging and effective breath work & movement practices. I am dedicated to empowering others to find balance, personal wisdom and peace through the transformative power of acceptance.
I offer an approach to growth and healing that is as diverse as my background. I infuse the lightness and joy from my years of comedy performance into a depth of work that leaves participants feeling inspired and connected to their truth.
My job is quite simple, I hold up a loving mirror to where you are, and work with you in the moment to pave the path to where you’re going. You already have everything you need, I just help you remember.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been building genuine relationships—both with myself and with others. In the service industry, the relationship we have with ourselves is paramount; it forms the foundation of how we interact with and serve our clients. By prioritizing my own well-being and integrity, I ensure that I show up fully present and authentic in every engagement. This personal alignment allows me to connect more deeply with clients, fostering trust and loyalty. When people sense that I am committed to both my own growth and theirs, it naturally leads to a thriving clientele built on mutual respect and meaningful connections.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I feel deeply passionate about this one, because I haven’t. I haven’t “built” a following. I currently have less than 1,000 “followers” 99% of whom I know personally. I have not let “building a following” on social media platforms dictate my worth or success. For me, it doesn’t matter how many people “follow” you; what truly counts is the depth of connection with each individual. You only need one person to believe in you to make a living doing what you love. If I allowed follower counts to be the barometer of my success, I would forever be chasing numbers instead of creating meaningful experiences. By focusing on authentic relationships and staying true to myself, I channel my energy into serving others through my passion. I share this in hopes to inspire others to leave the stress of “staying relevant” behind. I have not been active on Social Media for the past two months and have received more inquiries and event requests than the past two years combined. Stop limiting yourself by believing that your version of success has to come in ONE way – Life is FAR more abundant than that.
