We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kindra Williams a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kindra , thanks for joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later
This is such a great question, because the original plan was actually for this business to be my “retirement job.” I’ve always loved floral design and imagined it as the perfect second-career chapter later in life. But clearly, life had other plans.
After having my daughter, I experienced postpartum depression, and it hit me harder than I ever expected. I completely lost the desire to do anything let alone continue in the career I had spent 18 years building. During that season, I realized I needed something that felt meaningful, creative, and truly mine. That’s when I asked myself: why wait until retirement to start my dream, when I could begin building it now?
Looking back, knowing what I know today, I absolutely wish I had started sooner. Starting earlier would have given me more time to grow, make mistakes, and find my footing. But I also believe deeply that everything happens for a reason. I wasn’t the same person then that I am now, and this business was born out of a season that shaped me in ways I couldn’t have predicted.
So while part of me wishes I had started earlier, I also know I started exactly when I was ready. I’m right where I’m supposed to be and I wouldn’t change the journey that brought me here.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Absolutely! For those who may not know me, my name is Kindra Williams, and I’m the founder of Flamingo Floral Services LLC. I’m a home-based florist located in Deltona, Florida, specializing in all things floral. My passion is bringing my clients’ visions to life whether it’s a simple “just because” bouquet or a full-scale event. No project is too big or too small; give me your inspiration and your budget, and I’ll take it from there.
What truly sets Flamingo Floral Services apart is that I don’t participate in Teleflora or any wire services. Every order is designed and crafted start to finish by ME no cookie-cutter arrangements, no unrealistic stock photos, and no AI-generated expectations. Each piece is thoughtfully created and completely unique, just like the person receiving it.
Because I’m a small, home-based business, I typically don’t offer same-day orders. Instead, I work on a 1–2 day turnaround, which allows me to source the freshest flowers and give every arrangement the attention it deserves. I offer scheduled pickup as well as delivery throughout Central Florida for a fee, with free delivery for Deltona orders.
I’m incredibly proud of what this business represents not just professionally, but personally. Flamingo Floral Services has given me the opportunity to do meaningful, creative work while being present at home with my daughter, which has been the greatest blessing of all. Supporting a small business like mine truly makes a difference, and every single order means the world to me.
In addition to operating from home, I’m also the in-house florist for weddings and events at Northwest Square in DeLand, Florida, where you can find my build-your-own bouquet stand and ready-made arrangements available for purchase. Looking ahead, my goal is to eventually expand and offer nationwide flower shipping bringing a little Flamingo Floral love beyond Central Florida.
At the heart of it all, I want people to know that when they choose Flamingo Floral Services, they’re not just ordering flowers they’re supporting a dream, a family, and a business built with intention, care, and heart.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think my reputation has been built through consistency, honesty, and genuinely caring about the people I serve. From the beginning, I’ve focused on creating quality work and delivering exactly what I promise (sometimes even more). I’m very transparent with my clients about timelines, pricing, and expectations, which helps build trust and long-term relationships.
Being hands-on with every order has also made a huge difference. Because I personally design each arrangement, clients know they’re getting something thoughtfully created and not mass-produced. Word of mouth has been huge for my business, and I’m incredibly grateful that so many of my clients refer me to their friends and family or come back for future occasions.
I’ve also found that being present in my local community through farmers markets, collaborations, events, and partnerships has helped people really connect with my brand. At the end of the day, I treat every order, big or small, as if it were for someone I love. I think people can feel that, and that care is what keeps them coming back.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building my audience on social media happened very organically and honestly, a little unexpectedly. I didn’t start with a big strategy or a huge following I started by sharing my work, my process, and the real behind-the-scenes of running a small floral business. I showed the wins, the busy seasons, and even the chaos, and I think people connected with the authenticity.
Consistency has been one of the biggest factors. Even when growth felt slow, I kept showing up, posting my designs, sharing customer reactions, and engaging with my local community. I focused less on chasing trends and more on telling my story and showcasing the heart behind my brand. Over time, that built trust, and trust turned into an audience that genuinely supports my business.
For anyone just starting out, my biggest advice is to be yourself and don’t wait until everything feels “perfect” to post. Your people will find you through your honesty, not perfection. Engage with others, support fellow small businesses, and remember that social media is about connection, not just numbers. Growth takes time, but if you stay consistent and true to who you are, the right audience will come and they’ll stick around.
