Kimberly, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.

In my opinion, my parents are two of the greatest people to have ever lived. I consider myself lucky to have grown up with both of them having a strong presence in my life. My mom was more a tough love type of person, but she never wavered in her support of my dreams and my passions. My dad was literally my personal cheerleader. It was like he knew something that no one else did and saw my potential at a very young age. They both believed in me. They cared, they made me feel like I was put on this planet to do more than just the bare minimum. They had my back! A lot of people aren’t lucky enough to have that, whether its from their parents or anyone, so I felt it was my duty to be more and do more than the average.

In our never ending pursuit of success, I think the most important thing that any entrepreneur wants is to feel like they matter. They want to feel like the work they are doing matters, that the effort they put into what they do matters. My parents exceed that! They took the time to listen to me, help me, support me, and acknowledge me. Anytime I ever struggled or doubted myself when I was younger, and even as an adult, they never let me forget that I mattered. What I had to say mattered, that my work mattered, and that no matter what I faced, I was always bigger than my circumstances.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Exquisite Enterprises Inc. has come a long way in the almost 10 years we’ve been in business. I started this in 2013 after I moved back home after graduating college and felt stuck. I couldn’t find a job, I couldn’t find purpose. I just felt a bit defeated. So after talking to my parents, they motivated me to create my own path. So I gave birth to, what was then known as, So Exquisite Charleston. I created a platform to give others a platform to share their stories. I had evolved so much from the shy young girl I was in grade school, and I wanted to create something that wasn’t just for me but for the community. That was my priority. To show the world and my community, that there are brilliant individuals in the world pursuing their dreams and wanting to make a difference and leave their mark.

After a few years, I felt like I had reached the ceiling of what I wanted to do. The platform was well known and recognized around the region. I just felt like I did what I was supposed to do with that and now it was time for me to evolved. So I changed the business’ focus and direction. Exquisite Enterprises Inc. is what I elevated myself and the business in to. Something greater than me. Entrepreneurship, by this time, was growing like wild fire around world. The more businesses and professionals I connected with, I realized many of them lacked the proper support they needed to thrive. So I chose to offer that support to them. Many of the things I offered were things I already had experience, and some kind of training in, such as web design, graphic design. I immersed myself in the community so deeply by then that I felt, and still feel, I have something unique to bring to the table that can change the world, well at least the communities I served. I want to give to other businesses what my parents gave to me: hope. I want to show them that your dream isn’t crazy, its not stupid, its not pointless, it has potential and I can help you see that.

As of now, Exquisite Enterprises Inc. has evolved tremendously and we now focus on the more creative aspects of business such as branding and marketing. We provide services such as web design, SEO services, graphic design, printing services, direct mail advertising, and pay-per-click advertising.

How did you build your audience on social media?

Social media is such a chaotic place at times. It has a way of making people believe things about themselves that often times aren’t true. What’s worked for me over the years is being myself and letting that shine through my business. My intentions aren’t to present myself as this perfect person who has everything figured out and has all the answers. I give my audience the real, I give them me. My personality, my successes, my failures, my frustrations, my pain, and my passion. That’s what the entrepreneurial journey is to me. It’s complicated, its ugly, its beautiful, its inspiring, it’s life changing. I think the who idea with starting your business is that you are supposed to let your own light shine through it. That’s why its YOUR business.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?

I won’t go into the entire story, but basically I was in an incredibly abusive relationship a few years that broke me. Not because the relationship ended, but because of the betrayal by that person. They led me to believe that they were one person, when they were really someone else. As I started to grow as a person, and grow my business, they didn’t like that. So they made it a priority for themselves to tear me down and tear down what I loved. I felt like after everything happened, i was literally in pieces. I felt like crumbs of what I used to be. I was disappointed in myself and the fact that I allowed this to happen. So I pivoted by taking a step back. I lost myself and I realized the only way to get that back and help my business, was to take a step back and work on me for a while so that I can come back a thousand times stronger.
