Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kimberly Boulos. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kimberly, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you share a story with us from back when you were an intern or apprentice? Maybe it’s a story that illustrates an important lesson you learned or maybe it’s a just a story that makes you laugh (or cry)?
When I first began my transition from being a pro athlete to becoming a strength & conditioning coach and performance specialist, I worked alongside one of the world’s most renowned & innovative coach’s in women’s soccer. The business organized training regimens for one of the world’s top professional women’s soccer teams and the offseason training for a slew of Olympic Gold Medalists from around the World.
That experience taught me a lot- I learned how to integrate cutting edge science and data analysis with daily subjective testing, and began to understand that the top athletes and teams in the world understood the delicate balance between hard work and rest/recovery. However, at the time, I was also trying to return to pro soccer after the birth of my first child and, simultaneously, my third consecutive ACL surgery. While the most elite performance coaches were adept at training for the sport, there was a vast gap in understanding my female physiology- from pelvic floor health to my menstrual cycle to the other demands of my body through pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, and postpartum.
The health challenges (and lifestyle challenges) I was personally experiencing alongside the knowledge I was gaining opened my eyes to a gap that needed to be filled and understood.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My business- Root Performance & Wellness- is an integrative wellness company that specializes in bridging the gap between women’s health and performance. We integrate the most elite aspects of sports & performance science with holistic women’s health practices to better serve our female clients.
We approach EVERY client who walks through our door like they are the top pro athlete in the world- gaining a deep understanding of their goals, stage of life, challenges, fears, lifestyle challenges, etc, and giving them a support system and structure to help them thrive in all stages of life and athleticism– from the adolescent female athlete struggling with painful menses to the prenatal mom trying to have an empowered birth and postpartum experience.
We currently offer massage therapy, energy healing, pelvic floor healing & coaching, strength & conditioning, birth doula services, and group classes, and clients can mix & match services based on their specific goals. Our mission is to create a space where our clients can unlock the deepest parts of themselves to be able to access their full potential, no matter what their goals are.

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Respecting that the client is the expert in their body, and while you are there to facilitate their wellness, their experience & intuition is just as valuable. So many practitioners do not take the time to listen to their clients, but that is a cornerstone of our framework at Root Performance & Wellness. We see ourselves as part of a team for our clients, not as though we are above them or automatically know better. We are always striving to learn and to realize that every single human/experience is different.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Treating every client with care and love, and not being so obsessed with finding new clients that you neglect the ones who are there. People often take for granted the people who they believe will always be there, but we strive to make sure that we never do that– that we continue giving top care to our most longterm clients and that we do not ever expand too fast to be able to give them what they deserve.
