We were lucky to catch up with Kifo Doorwaze recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kifo, appreciate you joining us today. What’s the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
I have had the pleasure of having partners that have embraced my skills as well as me embracing them, kind of growing together. It helped build my confidence in my gifts.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a musician, screenwriter and event coordinator. I rap and sing in various sub-genre’s: post-punk, boom-bap, NOLA bounce, alt-pop and hybrids in between. I aim to finish my first short film this year. Cult Fest is coming back – criminally underrated local talent fest – a mini-con and local talent showcase as well as local market, with food, art, clothes and much more. Each event has a theme and there’s perks to following said theme.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
After getting robbed at gun point after walking from the studio definitely made me think ‘am I on the right track?’. I was definitely far more in love with the art of music throwing my first Cult Fest back in 2019. All by myself. I was determined to make such a local showcase/mixer/marketplace work with little money or means. It was a success.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Definitely being within the art scene. Open mics, underground parties, art shows, alt bars, house shows. My turn outs at Cult Fest were diverse and huge averaging 80 guests in its earlier days. The number of guest have grown exponentially since then.
