We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kiara Brown . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kiara below.
Kiara , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you take us back in time to the first dollar you earned as a creative – how did it happen? What’s the story?
The first paid gig I had was doing background for a Dallas artist named Flowerchild. She found me on Instagram and took a chance on me, I had never sung in a background group or sung in front of many people before that. It was an amazing experience and I was incredibly affirmed and loved in that space. I ended up doing that for about a year or so and I was able to grow my confidence as an artist and I’m so thankful for that.
Kiara , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a musical artist from a small town in Texas and I have chosen the artist name of Small Town to pay homage to where I’m from. I write and perform my own original songs and I pour my heart out of the line. I have incredibly big dreams when it comes to music and I wanna take this small town girl all around the world. I’m most proud of the genuine connections I’ve been able to cultivate through authenticity and love.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I definitely wish that I would have known how easy it is to ask for assistance earlier on. Seeing artists perform from afar you’d imagine that they’re these unapproachable beings that can’t be spoken to and I’ve learned that just isn’t true. Breaking through my shell, I have been able to get the assistance I’ve needed and so many people were willing to help.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Representation is something that drives me for sure. I didn’t have many women that looked like me, saying the things that I thought in media. I felt like there wasn’t a need or a space for someone that looked how I did at a young age. I wanting to leave a legacy of transparency and honesty in my music.
