We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kevan Sharperson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kevan, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The Most Meaningful project I’ve worked on is my current project entitled “Reflections| The Man I Can’t Escape”.
Its meaningful because it started off as a short film idea I had derived from Mental Health awareness. It’s a personal short film which highlights the three modes of communication, Ethos, Logos and Pathos. Which I use as a basis to tell the conflict fictional character, Riley, faces within himself. The “man he is trying to escape” is really the embodiment of his own vices and self identity.
With my father diagnosed with memory loss and Alzheimer’s, it made me really think deeply about my own inner doubts and vices I’ve struggled with throughout my everyday life. I wanted to create a short film that shows what happens when the line between reality and subconscious is blurred, and you become face to face with the very person you struggle to hide from, your true self.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Greetings My name is Kevan aka Sharpshooter Kev. from Miami, Florida. I currently reside in Atlanta, Georgia. I have been in the production industry since 2016. I got my start curating a Internet tv channel show. I moved to Atlanta in 2018 and have been here ever since. I’ve worked with brands such as Bomade Vodka and various music artists ranging from mainstream to underground. I started my production company Sharpshooter Pictures to house my original Short films and TV shows. I became fascinated with the production industry since my 6th grade Tv Production teacher, Ms Tobias-Carey, put a camera in my hands. I became curious about the ins and outs of creating a entertaining production series. She showed me that African Americans can and will continue to dominate this field for years to come. As a young Black man from South Florida, It showed me a different avenue to journey down besides the typical sports or music.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Upon moving up to Atlanta during 2018, COVID became a pandemic that took the world by storm. I was working in a production studio during the time of social distancing. With traffic to the studio slowing up, I needed to pivot to a new stream of income while still feeding my creativity itch. So platforms like Tiktok, YouTube became my newfound canvas. I would have countless ideas written in my notes section of my phone, then develop and plan out how to execute. From there short films such as New Squaaaww City, Path to Black Business History Facts, and Reflections were created. Some were developed in collaboration with other talented minds in the entertainment industry.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to showcase my ideas and creativity from my mind on the screen for all to see. I take pride in the journey it takes to bring these ideas to life because art imitates life, so I want to create projects that people can relate to on a much deeper than surface level.
