We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kerrington Vaughn. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kerrington below.
Hi Kerrington, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
So because I’m a Fashion creative learning how to do these things came in different phases of my life. For each gift that I have recently I’ve learned more from God and my fashion community. I believe if I would’ve been open to creative connections early in my career the learning process would have been quicker. One the most important things that I learned was to collaborate. People who do this will always be successful! I think because I was so afraid of potential creative competition that I steered away from networking and reaching to people.

Kerrington, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Well, my name is Kerrington Vaughn I’m 23 and I’m born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. I’ve loved all things fashion since I was a little and always knew I would be in fashion someday. I’ve always said I wanted to be a Fashion Designer so I attend Phoenix College and obtained my degree in Fashion Design. But I ended up realizing that I didn’t want to work in the design aspect of fashion. So with the help of God I tapped back into my love styling. But My first break out moment fashion was styling for a play called “Summer Raine 2” Miss Nicole Newman (writer/producer/director) gave me a chance to show my gift in the biggest way! I was only eighteen years old but she saw my gift and I’m grateful for that moment. Ever since that moment my brand has grew. Demaria With Style (D.W.S.) is a styling service that enhance your personal style. Whether it be through editorial/brand shoots, personal events, or special occasions. The brand strive to highlight your God given beauty through style and fashion. With clients a truly strive to make them feel beautiful, seen and heard. Of course with different body types it’s a challenge to make sure the client is comfortable. But after much experience and God wisdom, I know how to balance both what I potentially seen in a client and making them still feel like themselves. I will always be proud of myself for putting my own fashion show together last year. I had all women (shapes, sizes, ethnicity etc.) a moment I’ll never forget! Like it was said earlier D.W.S. wants to enhance your God given style, beauty and personality.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I would say something that I had to unlearn is that fashion is not a box. Fashion has many avenues, Whether that be styling, modeling or designing. This creative industry is bigger than just one way of doing things. For so long, I thought the only way you could make it in the fashion would be only by design. Eventually I had to unlearn that. The moment that I had that change is when I was in a classroom in my second semester of college and the class I was taking was really hard. I just told myself this is not for me. So from that day forward, I just started doing outside projects for styling and getting into community so that I could be who I really knew I was called to be.

Have you ever had to pivot?
So as I mentioned earlier, I am a Fashion creative, which means I do all fashion from styling, modeling and content creating. Recently I had to pivot with my social media pages. At first I had all of my professions except for content creating on one page, but I got some wisdom from a fellow creative and she had told me to separate everything so that things may be clear. Honestly, that was hard because for almost 3 years I had both my styling work and my modeling work on one page. But since I’ve made the change, things have been better. So pivoting may be uncomfortable, but sometimes it’s necessary.
