We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kenya Zandrowicz a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kenya, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
I have always, even as a little girl envisioned being the owner of my own company. I am not sure if it stemmed from watching soap opera’s with my grandmother, but there was something about walking into my own office and sitting at my desk to run things that I found most intriguing.
Somewhere in my life that dream dwindled away never to be lived…or so I thought. I had so many ups and downs in my life but somewhere deep down I knew I would be front and center and living that “entrepreneurial lifestyle”.
Fast forward to Covid-19 when the world stopped. Prior to Covid, I was doing Runway training through my previous company Runway 1on1 as well as event production. I had been in the fashion and entertainment industry for over 20 years. So stepping into the business side of it was the next step in life. Then Came Covid-19 , it was during that time that I felt the uncertainties in the world. So many people, even those closest to me were afraid and unsure about their future.
I myself had gone through a lot in my life. I had turned to meditation about 11 years ago to help get me through a lot of what life was throwing my way at the time. I started my journey of spirituality and self discovery back then. When Covid happened, I found myself helping my dearest friends through their life lessons. It was during that time I realized I had a gift and now more than ever, I felt I could do something to help others.
So, I became a certified Meditation and Intuitive life coach. It was completely left of the hustle and bustle of the entertainment and fashion industry. Was I scared yes, Did I Do It Anyway…Yes!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Sure. In December 2020 I became a certified Meditation and Intuitive Life Coach and started Go From A To Zen. I had no clue that this is where my path would lead. The entertainment industry was where I had always gravitated toward but never truly found my definition of extreme success. I am what you would consider a serial entrepreneur, I love to create and try new things. I am not afraid to fail. I cannot tell you how many times I have failed forward.
Today, Go From A To Zen is a lifestyle, brand and practice that focuses on assisting individuals with finding more clarity abundance and love in their own lives. We offer products, services and resources that can assist you in creating processes to help you navigate through the emotional waters of everyday life. Balance is key and we help others find balance.
My philosophy, We Become What We Consume. Being mindful of what we take in on a daily basis is so important. So I try to reach individuals where they are to get that very message across. I have From A To Zen Magazine, From A To Zen Radio, From A To Zen Natural Skin and Bath Products. If you are going to read, watch, listen to or use anything, it may as well be things that are good for your soul. I enlist my media company IndiesStandup Media as the distribution outlet.
This has allowed me the opportunity to meet, speak with and guide some amazing individuals. My customers and clients are what keep me going. I truly do this because I care. I love to create and this has become my outlet. Somehow it falls right in line with my other ventures.
The road has not been easy, but it sure has been worth it. When you have a desire/dream you owe it to yourself to see it through.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
The Pandemic…My who life, business, career and life was one COMPLETE PIVOT. When I turned 50…it was a complete shift. Not like a mid life crisis, more like an absolutel realization of who I am. Even to this day, my friends, family and followers state how they cannot believe I am doing the things I do and this is my life.
I am a city girl, I was born and raised in the city, I have lived in multiple major cities through out my life. I knew the city was where I would be working, living and playing in the city. When the pandemic hit it was a time to rethink my life up until that point. My now husband and I had just moved to Georgia from NC. We were there for 2 months when the world shut down. It was then I decided to actually try something new and follow him to live in the country.
I was terrified. I knew nothing about living in the country. I mean I was a city girl, I needed the noise and the hustle and bustle of life not crickets and cows.
I took a leap of faith and went with it. Yup. I live happily on a farm with chickens, cows and fish in a pond, a vegetable garden and I LOVE EVERY MINUTE OF IT. I meditate among the trees and my clients and friends consider my home a retreat. My kids, grandkids, family and friends ALL love every minute of it.
I wake up and have my coffee and go into my home office and look at my to do list and think how on earth did I get here and how is it exactly where I wanted to be. It is like having my own oasis to create in. I am able to stay in tuned with nature…crickets included (chuckle).
It took me getting really honest with myself. I have done a lot over the years. I have worked with some wonderful people on some wonderful projects, but it was time to do something that was more rewarding and fulfilling. This was it.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
It took some time for me to realize that what I love doing is creating. I love the idea of having a vision and bringing it to life. I held full time jobs while perusing a lot of my ventures. I assisted with event production, fashion show production, directing, model coaching, graphic work, branding and marketing. So all of those years I was perfecting my skills and craft. Which in turn helped me get to where I am today.
If I wanted this to be my day to day life, I knew I had to get creative if I wanted to capture clients. I wanted them to truly feel drawn toward the Going From A To Zen Lifestyle so I decided to launch a product line to go along with the services piece. I have always been a fan of using essential oils, and homemade skin care.
When I launched the product line for Go From A To Zen, I planned very carefully,. I slowly over the course of 6 mos purchased the items I needed to create the line of products, and researched which products I wanted to start with. I took my time with it. When I lost my job and so did my husband it was do or die. I went full steam ahead. I started really pushing the magazine and radio portions which I used to promote my products. The Magazine and radio portions helped me to draw in clients for the services piece of the business.
Today, I am proud to say what once was a side hustle is now something I do full time. I have even launched another division of the company; GFATZ INC. which offers Fashion And Entertainment Event Consulting Services. That is going great by the way. So now I do everything I absolutely love, I even assist my husband Joel with his company Robotic Mower Installer. We are true full time entrepreneurs.
