Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to KENS. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, KENS thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Our upcoming album Atarayo is by far the most meaningful project any of us has ever worked on. This is a behemoth of a collaborative project with around 80 people working on it, across 10 countries in 3 different continents. This being our second album, we wanted to take everything to the next level. We had a vision of making a grand album that’ll change the stigma of a Jazz-adjacent instrumental band, will cross genres and reach as many different types of people as possible.
The album is dropping this summer, with 4 singles already out! So check them out to see the results (note how every single is completely different, while still being a part of a bigger whole).

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
We’re KENS, an emerging Israeli-Japanese trio, bridging the worlds of catchy Pop-like melodies, with adventurous Jazz-driven improvisation, African and Funk-inspired grooves paired with unique rock and prog rhythms.
We all met during our studies at the Rimon Jazz Institute, immediately felt a strong personal and musical chemistry. This chemistry led us to constantly play together and tighten the now almost telepathic musical connection between us, while simultaneously composing and arranging new music. Soon enough we began touring locally, and when we saw the audience’s enthusiastic response, we knew it’s not just us – we had something special here.
Shortly after that our debut album was released, with much critical claim, and the second one is on the way! So we encourage everyone to check out music on all streaming platforms, follow us on social media, and enter the world of KENS.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When we wanted to start working on our second album, we had a grand vision for an epic album. Unfortunately, that vision requires resources we simply didn’t have. We knew at that time that a lot of people connected to our first album, so we truly believed in the potential for a new one, as well as in the connection we made with our newly-gained fans. We decided to risk it all and to start a Headstart campaign. By every means, this should not have worked. We were too small of a band and our vision was simply unrealistic. But we worked day and night to promote the Headstart, offer as many captivating rewards as possible, and reached out to every person we knew to help us with. It was a close call, but fortunately on the last day of the campaign we reached our goal, and the work on this album set-sail.

How did you build your audience on social media?
One of our strongest social media attributes is something that’s very important to us as a band in general, which is a strong aesthetic language and world building beyond the music. A quick look in our feed, just as in our artwork, will immediately show a clear visual representation of our music, and our selves. We believe this draws fans closer to everything we do, and adds another dimension to it.
