We recently connected with Kendra Hunt and have shared our conversation below.
Kendra, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later
If I could have started With Love sooner, I probably would have, but I can’t say it’ll be where it is today. I used to refer to myself as a creative serial entrepreneur and still do a little. At one point, I felt like I was “starting a new business” on a regular before moving on to another idea. I created a cleaning personal assistance service, custom designing accessories, and doing lashes. I was a modern-day hustler. Lol.
Creating With Love as a business was kind of an accident. I was trying to make a bath bomb for my son to use that would soothe his skin with dealing with eczema, I posted it online, and the inquiries started flooding in. With Love was created precisely at the right time and for the right reason, to allow people to care for their skin with love.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started With Love, formerly Bodied by Bella, in 2016, after posting a bath bomb on social media. My youngest son, who was 4yrs old at the time, was dealing with highly problemed eczema. We experienced using different lotions, ointments, and prescription creams, and everything proved ineffective. It wasn’t until the dermatologist suggested adding bleach to my son’s bath water to help soothe the breakouts. Yes, bleach! I think my reaction was, “What the heck!?” Almost waiting for him to say he was kidding.
After that visit with the dermatologist, it was either bleach baths or creating my own solution. I began researching different oils, herbs, and at-home remedies. Fast forward to today, I enjoyed creating various healthy skin care products crafted with quality you can see and feel.
With the help of my husband and our two sons, we make our products in small batches, With Love and Intention. Our line has something for everyone, from men grooming products to bath bombs, body cremes, yoni wash, and more.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
As an entrepreneur, resilience is necessary as you grow your business and after it’s established. How you recover after an unforeseen misfortunate is what can get you to keep growing. Trusting in your vision rather than your sight will prove the difference. It’s been times when I’ve had to commute to vendor events without selling a single product and had to sit through it, hoping a person would stop by the table just for an interaction. I’ve had times when I tested new products that were a complete flop. It’s easy to get in your head and convince yourself you should give up. That’s when you have to remember why you started… So others don’t have to put bleach in their water.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Starting as a business owner, you think it’s smooth sailing! You will control your schedule, you can relax and make a passive income while traveling and enjoying life, and all your friends and family will be there supporting and cheering you on! Entrepreneurship will be paradise! Negative! It’s a lie! It didn’t take long for me to unlearn the fairy tale. The reality is the grind doesn’t stop! Your schedule is more demanding as you push through late nights while depending on energy drinks and snacks for dinner. The only traveling will consist of vendor events and quick runs to the store for supplies. The support will come from marketing like crazy to grow your audience and clientele. This isn’t saying the ones closest to you don’t support you and the hustle isn’t worth the reward. The gamechanger is when you realize that you get out what you put in.
