Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kendra. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kendra, appreciate you joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
One of the risks I HAD to take was walking away from management for my singing career to kick it off the way I want it or need it to be.
I was with an “anonymous’ music management distribution for a year, that took a not-so-great turn after discovering what was really happening. I was losing a lot of money that was not going to anything that would “supposedly helped” my career in the long haul. I was angry. I was upset. I was really affected by this behavior behind what happened with this distribution. I have major trust issues after this incident because I was throwing away money on a false dream/promise.
But it was lesson learned for me, in a HUGE way.
I am still learning the music industry as an independent artist, and I am new to all what comes with this lifestyle and the finances that comes with it too.
So that was a big risk for me when I walked away and felt like I couldn’t trust anyone to be with me and build a faithful team.

Kendra, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Kendra Chanae and I am an Indianapolis-based R&B and soul singer-songwriter who launched my music career back in 2023. My brand is centered on “bringing love and soul back” to the industry through sound & aesthetic beauty with class and elegant.
In 2024, I received a Grammy Award Consideration for the 67th Annual Grammy Awards in the “Best Traditional R&B Performance” category for my rendition of Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good”. In 2025, I did a collaboration with neo-soul artist Bren.d.o based in Illinois; of our most smash hit song “Electric Love Affair”. Which “Electric Love Affair” reached #12 on iTunes R&B category. Which is a huge honor & very humbling!
I just recently released my latest single “Melting Faces” this year in March 2026; did collaboration with an up-and-coming music producer by the name of Scooby Austin based in Michigan. Scooby and I have collaborated before. So you will hear more from the both of us as we both are creating music on a daily basis.
I want my fans to know that I am a very funny but also shy person. I make people/fans feel comfortable for them to be themselves and to be free with me.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal and mission are to bring “love & passion” back to the music industry. I feel the world is missing so much love and compassion for one another because it’s such a competitive world.
People need to hear positivity and love; we deal with bad news most of time, and music is the only thing that can get people through. Why not write songs about love or loving on someone. Bring the people together. My music is all about love and having a good time. My vibe is different from other artists.
That’s my goal and mission; to be happy, loved and live this life as a good time!

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
My primary source of new fans and professional opportunities has been consistent social media engagement combined with strategic networking within the music industry and other opportunities outside of the music industry.
I’ve built my audience by frequently posting singing clips, original songs, and personal “behind-the-scenes” content. I prioritize direct interaction with followers to foster loyalty.
Social media has been a huge impact on my career because I get to interact with my peers and fans. I can collaborate with other artists, like myself and create something awesome and powerful.
