We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kelton Gentle. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kelton below.
Alright, Kelton thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
What do I think it takes to become successful, that’s simple Sacrifice, Perseverance, and a can’t hurt me mentality. Being 19 years old in an industry such as real estate requires lots of time and sacrifice, most of my peers at this age and people I went to school with are out living the college life style partying every week & weekend enjoying “the best time of there life’s” as a realtor I spend 6/7 days showing property’s, handling stuff for my clients, always receiving phone calls and staying in the office as much as I can and that’s not even the tip of the iceberg of what you sacrifice being in this career. I’ve missed multiple birthdays, family dinners & party’s and most of the time I want get in till late at night. Working as a realtor definitely requires lots of perseverance as well, you have to learn to persevere through the somewhat stressful times of real estate, preserve to always keep learning so you can guide and help your clients the best you can, persevere through the markets changes, and most important as anything else you have to persevere through the days that are hard. The can’t hurt me mentally as David Goggins would call it comes into play with the fact that not everything is going to go your way in this career, most people’s expectations of real estate is they will work in the career for a year make so much money that they can retire but that is far from the truth. It takes time to build your Business and clients in real estate. Also what I mean by that is there are lots of things that can go wrong in a real estate transaction and if you think that your never gonna mess anything up, your wrong! You can’t be held down by if you mess something up or your the reason a closing gets delayed you just have to own up to the mistake, realize what you did wrong and fix the problem. At the end of the day a good Realtor is the glue that holds you as a client together in one of the most stressful process someone will go through in there lives.

Kelton, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Kelton Gentle I’m 19 years old and decided to pursue the Real Estate Career after high school. Throughout my childhood years I struggled with a disability many people have and that’s Dyslexia & ADHD, Growing up I was always the typical kid that made bad grades but played football and figured I would do nothing after high school but go into the Military, but that all changed my JR year of high school. My JR year or high school I decided to look at different careers that would allow me to make good money but most of all be able to help people and the community around me and that’s when I stumbled across Real Estate. Immediately I knew that’s what I’m going to pursue for my career and I’m going to become successful in it no matter what it takes so as soon as I turned 18 years old I enrolled in my first real estate school. Long story short I ended up taking the School 5 times and the state and national test probably 8 times and right around a year later I was a licensed provisional real estate broker at 18 years old.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think what helped grow my reputation is first off I do not settle for nothing but the best for my clients, in my book and what should be in any other realtors book is that my clients come first always no matter what the situation is. Second I’m in this industry to help people and see there faces when I sell them there dream home or sell that piece of property they never thought would sell, I could honestly careless about how much I make off a property, don’t get me wrong I have to make a living to but in my opinion I would rather someone know me as how much I helped them instead of off how much money I made off them.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I keep in touch with my clients through a simple phone call and heart to heart conversation. I make sure that my clients know they are not just average clients but family.
