Alright, Kelsey thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?

My Father was an artist, musician & songwriter, he influenced my songwriting skill and stage confidence. My Mother was influential in my education and discipline for the arts. I was taught piano and music theory as a child, this motivated me to teach myself guitar. Rehearsing, taking notes & the Internet were the best tools to achieving my craft, especially in a time of financial constraints as a child artist. Self discipline is your best friend & sets you apart. Never fear the finances, when you truly invest in your vision, finances will come.

Kelsey, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I’m a recording artist, songwriter and makeup artist. My sound is urban pop/hiphop. My goal with music & brand is conveying a message of hope and motivation to the misfits, muses & underdogs. I’m currently building the brand & independent. Diversity & urban culture has influenced and inspired me. I enjoy translating complicated ideas into music and art to express what we feel in our heads & hearts. Along with my own projects, I provide services for music features, songwriting, makeup & fashion styling.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being creative in your experience?

For me, it’s being able to convey a thought or story into a music piece and it connecting with more than one person’s scenario. I enjoy leaving the listener with something to walk away with or something to think about.

Have you ever had to pivot?

I started doing music professionally at 14. So I was faced with many pivotal moments in my career due to evolving and growing up & the resources around me. My sound evolved throughout the years, going from inspirational genre to more urban pop/hiphop; that journey alone took time by myself and really tapping into what has always moved me rhythmically, truly listening to my voice and creating the right verbiage professionally to direct that sound.
