We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kelly Sekulovski a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kelly, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Our mission is to empower and inspire women in the fitness community through informative, inclusive, and uplifting content. When we created Femme Fit Society, myself and co-founder Lindsey Marcelli were talking about how no one in fitness media space was talking about the REAL things we as women want to know about: like peeing during jump roping, what it’s like to be a new mom trying to get back into the gym, what it’s like to be a woman who wants to be strong versus be skinny, and so much more. This lead us to creating our own media outlet which includes a newsletter, website, social media accounts and a podcast (launching soon) to share that information. We share female owned businesses and how to support them, educational info from health professionals, and we encourage women to support other women through our community. Seeing the positive impact sharing my own personal story with fertility issues and pregnancy loss was a huge way for me to cope with my losses, and also see that there are so many other women out there who need a community that supports and understands them. We are so excited to be able to be that community.

Kelly, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Both Lindsey and I have been in the fitness industry for many years in the roles of CrossFit affiliate owner, gym manager, coach, personal trainer, marketing and social media manger, and everything in-between. We know what it’s like to be a woman in a male dominated fitness industry, and we also know what our female clients and friends want to be educated about when it comes to their health and fitness. This is why we provide some of the best content out there. No topics are off limits with us: if you want to know about it, we are going to talk about it. Period.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Building an audience on social media takes a village. We consistently try to do giveaways with other brands and accounts to cross promote, but the main thing is that we are CONSTANTLY putting out content. While you might feel like you are shouting into the void, consistently putting out content is how you build your social media presence! Encourage those around you to engage with your content as well.
How’d you meet your business partner?
Lindsey and I met when I was interviewed her for a Morning Chalk Up article about her business: Girls Gone Rx, which hosts CrossFit competitions all over the world to raise money for Compete for a Cure, the breast cancer charity that Lindsey also founded. We clicked immediately and when she explained the mission behind it I was totally on board to help spread the word. After working together for a bit through Girls Gone Rx, we came up with the concept for Femme Fit Society and it was just a natural move from there, with both of our expertise, connections and work ethics.
