We were lucky to catch up with Kelcie Weber recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kelcie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I think I always knew I wanted to be in a creative field when I grew up. As a kid, my mom put me in dance classes, and that was my first taste of performing. But even before then, my mom cultivated an environment of creativity and wonder for my sister and I while growing up. We were always doing art projects together, playing dress up and putting on skits. My childhood bedroom is even painted in a magical mural of trees, fairies, flowers, and bunnies. I also was encouraged to read books as a kid, we have a very large collection of books at home, so stories flow through me easily. All of those things together have made me into the performer and creative I am today. I still get to play pretend, even as an adult! How cool is that?

Kelcie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m an actress, just trying to make it on the big screen. I’ve been in many short films, a couple of feature-length films, and commercials galore. Some of my more well-known credits include a local feature film, ‘Scare Us’, that is a horror anthology and features Tom Sandoval from ‘Vanderpump Rules’. I am also featured in the Emmy award-winning ad campaign ‘ASHLine’ from the Arizona Department of Health Service.
Something I’ve always been passionate in, is bringing books to life. I’ve always loved to read, and something I would do when I was home alone was to pick my favorite character from my book, and walk around the house reading their lines out loud, and acting out their scenes. This is what inspired me to begin making scenes for TikTok, and building my platform as a creative on there. This is probably what I’m most proud of, because it comes from me. I love getting to bring my favorite characters to life and act out my favorite scenes. I also bring to life the scenes we wish were in the movies of books that have already been adapted but never made it in. Those include Harry Potter, Twilight, and Hunger Games, just to name a few.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
In the acting and film world, everyone always tells you that networking is the business… I had no idea how true that was. It truly is all about who you know. Many of the opportunities that I’ve been presented with have been through friends I’ve met in the industry, working with people consistently, or even being tagged in a fellow actor’s Instagram story. Interacting with fellow industry people on social media is another great way to connect and network. I am still working on putting myself out there more, myself. I’m also still working on keeping in touch with industry people, but that’s something that’s also extremely important to do to stay relevant.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I think in the world of acting and other creative fields, we all know the stereotype of being asked questions about our careers, and are we making any money from it, and “What movie might I have seen you in?”… Nothing they’d probably know… This industry is hard! We know that, and they know that. But what they may not understand, is success in this industry doesn’t just mean being an A-list actor or director. If you are actively pursuing this creative job, then you are succeeding. If you are making opportunities for yourself in this creative field, you are succeeding. If you are booking roles as an extra but not a lead, you are still succeeding! People not in this industry need to understand that the majority of actors, are not A-listers, but we are still working. We just need support and excitement, even when we book a one line role on an episode of Law and Order!
