We recently connected with Keeton Robinson and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Keeton thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How do you think about vacations as a business owner? Do you take them and if so, how? If you don’t, why not?
I do like vacations. I feel like that’s important because the grind can burn you out, and that vacation is the best thing you can do yourself. It’s an investment just as much as investing in your equipment because the time and energy you poured into your company will be the same way toward vacation. I know it can be difficult not to work while you’re on vacation, but it’s worth it not working so you can get recharged and get back to work once the vacation is over.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
How I got into photography mainly by picking up a camera and having the discipline to take my talent to another level. I took it seriously, and I was reaching out to other photographers and just asking them questions about their process. I was glad that they took the time to answer any questions I had because I know being a photographer can feel like it’s competitive, and it’s not. The type of service I provide is being your personal photographer for artists that are looking for live event photographs. If any baby showers are involved or just a quick photoshoot, I am available for those services. .We just want to see any photographer do great. What set me apart from others is my work ethic and wanting to improve each time I pick my camera. I want to be the best photographer I can be and let my work do the talking for me. What I’m most proud of is the progress I’ve made since I picked up the camera. Never thought that I’ll be traveling to big events and seeing myself loving photography. What I want my potential clients & followers know about me is that I’m authentic, and my work is authentic, meaning that if there’s no understanding of the person that I’m shooting and what I’m to show through my lens, then it won’t work. I’m always open to new ideas and never come off as if I know everything because we don’t know everything.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Resources I wish I had known about earlier was having someone I knew personally who was a photographer because I think that transition would be easier, and I can learn so much more in real-time while I’m also soaking up any advice. The trial and error route is ok because you look back and reflect on the process and say to yourself if I give advice or take an up-and-coming photographer under my wing, then those same mistakes I made won’t happen. Reaching out to other photographers can be time-consuming, especially the ones that don’t want to respond for whatever reason. Don’t take it personally because someone will respond and give you some advice.
How did you build your audience on social media?
The thing is that consistency is key, and don’t look at the numbers because each post won’t be that high number that you may expect. It’s going to be rough at first because that audience has to be set, but once that audience is found, the sky is the limit. Tag the person because they can have a bigger following which can help your audience grow as well. Just have to have the will that my audience will grow, and I will find my audience as well.
