We were lucky to catch up with Kaylen Kelsey Kristen Kassab K3 Sisters Band recently and have shared our conversation below.

Kaylen Kelsey Kristen Kassab, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?

Kaylen: I’m the oldest of the three of us sisters. At 4 years old we each began to take fiddle lessons and appear on stage singing, acting in dramas and performing for charities and festivals at home school events and with the Double Portion Band run by our parents. Over the years all three of us were exposed to the music and entertainment business as a natural part of our family life.

Kelsey: It’s true that all three of us didn’t fully realize that we were destined to pursue a professional path in the world of music and entertainment. Being homeschooled from the beginning, music and performance was part of our curriculum. Plus, performing with both of our parents on stage was a safe place so we didn’t have the kind of anxiety and fears most artists experience.

Kristen: As we began performing for entire elementary school assemblies and at city wide festivals and fairs we bagan to realize that we were climbing the ladders of success. I think that when we were booked at Six Flags Over Texas for a series of shows in front of the large crowds and huge rides we began to think that this journey was going to last much longer than we thought. Getting free “front of line passes” to ride the rides in between sets didn’t hurt either..

Kaylen Kelsey Kristen Kassab, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Kristen: Originally we began performing for senior citizens and charities that appreciated a novelty act of children playing fiddles and singing old time songs they loved. It wasn’t long before the word spread to local festivals and craft shows that we could add excitement to the event attendees. It just kept mushrooming from there. It’s hard to comprehend that today we have received over three billion views world wide on social media and have millions of fans across all social media platforms.

Kelsey: The inherent discipline of music education, song writing, and social studies that were custom tailored for our home school curriculums became a powerful force that kept us progressing when a lot of young performers might have given up or switched to sports or other activities. That progression has let to us livestreaming full concerts and meetups to fans all over the world. Our products include our original music which is free on our website in addition to the usual band merch for sale such as T-shirts, hats, photos and our K3Motto magnets.

Kaylen: So, over the years we began to write our own music, sing in three part harmony and learn to play numerous instruments such as the fiddle, mandolin, guitar, bass, harmonica, ukulele and drums to name a few.
Additionally, since we were studying French as part of our education, we began branching out to include French in a few songs which led to us today singing short name songs in twenty different languages to fans in 70 countries and counting. Long ago we stopped performing covers of other artists’ songs, and instead have amassed a catalogue of hundreds of original songs for which we hold all the copyrights.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?

Kelsey: Over the years we have experienced both in person and online bullying. This is an issue that we have addressed with our K3 Motto as well as writing numerous “warning songs” that openly counter the destructive trends in society such as bullying. The K3 Motto is: I will always believe in myself and celebrate my life and the lives of others. I will respect the music and customs of others as long as they are not harmful to anyone, I will stand against bullying of any kind and choose love over hate.” We have shipped free locker magnets and refrigerator magnets of this motto all over the world in many languages, and it is circling the globe to millions of young people in just about every culture on planet earth.

Kristen: We want to encourage our generation and those close to us who have been hurt by the isolation and anxiety caused by the pandemic as well as a general slide into a dystopian, negative and violent world view. Instead, our lyrics of encouragement, optimism and recovery are meant to energize with positivity and self reliance. We receive thousands of comments about how our fan base known as the K3SB FAM has been helped by our mission to inspire and uplift one another, and stand against hate and bullying.

Kaylen: It’s important to us as song writers and entertainers to reach out to all cultures without the divisiveness caused by politics or belief systems. Many of our songs lift up the motifs of world peace, inclusiveness and the fact that in the end we are all searching for love and acceptence in our own cultural and homelands that all have rich heritages and value. How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?

Kelsey: One of the most recent developments in society is the rise of artificial intelligence or AI. This is an exciting technological tool for students and workers to improve productivity and leisure time entertainment, but there is a darker flip side to AI that is developing. For instance, many new visitors to our livestream concerts question whether or not we are really playing our many instruments or is it AI? Some accuse us of being fake AI generated performers, and it’s simply not true. Thank goodness for our K3SB FAM moderators on social media who know we are authentic performers and quickly put these false accusations to rest. We have spent 16 plus years leaning the craft of singing, performing live on many instruments and writing our own music not with the “help” of AI.

Kaylen: The music business controls big world tours, expensive ticket prices and forces artists to submit to their rules and constraints. We have chosen to remain independent artists because we desire total creative freedom.
The trade off might eventually limit our success, but we are willing to take the chance. We are hoping that a large number of music lovers and positive thinkers will see value in the human spirit of achievement instead of the AI shortcuts that are popping up everywhere in media. It’s not that we are against artists who use AI to bolster their careers and reach, it’s just that we feel there is room out there for artists who don’t use AI that much or at all.

Kristen: The social media platforms often provide ways for viewers and listeners to send gifts, superchats or support to bands like the K3 Sisters Band. It makes a big difference. Also, if an independent band offers merch it helps to buy some of it as well. There is probably no way we could afford to do a world tour with all its expenses and overhead, but if we can manage to do a series of in person shows later this year or in the future we hope the local region will come and show their support. Of course, attending our livestream shows and commenting on them as well as our frequent social media posts is super helpful.
