We were lucky to catch up with Kayla Warren recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kayla, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
The idea for Resumesbyk came from seeing how many talented people struggled to present themselves confidently on paper, even though they had the skills and experience to succeed. I often noticed friends, classmates, and professionals feeling overwhelmed when it came to writing resumes, preparing for interviews, or understanding how to position themselves for opportunities. Many people had strong backgrounds but did not know how to communicate their value in a way that employers would immediately recognize.
What really stood out to me was how much confidence people gained once their resumes were improved and they understood how to speak about their experience more effectively. What began as helping others informally soon became something I realized could have a larger impact. In 2023, I officially founded Resumesbyk with the goal of providing resume writing and career mentorship services that help individuals feel prepared, competitive, and confident in their job search.
The reason I knew this was a worthwhile endeavor was because the need was constant and very real. People are often taught how to gain education and work experience, but many are never taught how to market themselves professionally. I saw an opportunity to bridge that gap by offering both practical resume support and career guidance. Rather than simply editing documents, I wanted to help people understand how to tell their professional story in a way that aligned with their goals.
What made the business especially exciting to me was that it combined something I naturally enjoyed helping others communicate their strengths with a service that creates immediate results. Seeing clients become more confident, secure interviews, and feel empowered in their career journey confirmed that this business was solving a meaningful problem.

I focus not only on creating strong resumes, but also on mentoring clients so they understand their own value, communicate it effectively, and approach opportunities with greater confidence. As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Kayla, and I am the founder of Resumesbyk, a resume writing and career mentorship business I launched in 2023. My work is centered around helping people present themselves professionally, confidently, and strategically when pursuing career opportunities. What led me into this space was seeing how many talented individuals had valuable experience, education, and skills but struggled to communicate that effectively on a resume or during the hiring process. I realized that many people are qualified for opportunities they want, but they often need guidance in how to tell their story in a way that employers immediately recognize and value.
I first began helping people informally by reviewing resumes for friends, classmates, and professionals in my network. Over time, I noticed that once someone had a stronger resume and a clearer understanding of how to talk about their experience, their confidence changed completely. They became more prepared, more focused, and more optimistic about their career path. That transformation is what inspired me to turn what I was doing naturally into a business.
Through Resumesbyk, I provide professional resume writing, resume editing, interview preparation, LinkedIn guidance, and career mentorship services. My goal is not only to improve a document, but to help each client understand how to position their background, strengths, and accomplishments in a way that aligns with the opportunities they are seeking. I work with clients at different stages of their careers, from students preparing for internships and first jobs to professionals looking to transition into new industries or advance into leadership roles.
One of the biggest problems I solve is helping people overcome uncertainty in how they present themselves professionally. Many clients come to me unsure of how to describe their achievements, explain employment gaps, organize their experience, or compete in a job market that can feel overwhelming. I help simplify that process by turning their experience into clear, polished, results-driven materials while also coaching them on how to communicate their value with confidence.
What sets Resumesbyk apart is the personal approach I bring to every client interaction. I do not believe in one-size-fits-all resumes or generic advice. Every person has a unique story, and I take time to understand their goals, strengths, and industry so that what we create feels authentic and strategic. In addition to writing resumes, I focus heavily on mentorship because I want clients to leave with more than a document, I want them to leave with confidence, clarity, and a stronger sense of direction.
What I am most proud of is the impact the business has had on people who may have doubted themselves before seeking help. Seeing clients secure interviews, gain confidence, and move closer to opportunities they once felt were out of reach is incredibly rewarding. I am especially proud that the business has grown through trust, referrals, and the results clients have experienced.
The main thing I want potential clients, followers, and supporters to know is that Resumesbyk is built on the belief that everyone deserves to feel prepared and empowered when pursuing opportunities. My brand is about more than resumes it is about helping people recognize their value, communicate it effectively, and move forward with confidence in their careers.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my audience on social media in a very organic way, through results, relationships, and consistency. When I first started Resumesbyk, most of my growth came from helping people in my immediate network improve their resumes and prepare for interviews. As clients began landing jobs, internships, and new opportunities, many of them naturally referred others to me and shared their experiences, which helped build trust and credibility around my work. Word of mouth became one of the strongest drivers of my growth because people were not only seeing the service, they were seeing the outcomes.
Another major part of building my audience came through participating in career events at schools and within companies. Being present in those spaces allowed me to connect directly with students, job seekers, and professionals who needed guidance. Those conversations often extended beyond the event itself, with people following my work online, reaching out for services, and recommending me to others. Social media then became an extension of that relationship building it gave me a platform to continue sharing career advice, resume tips, and professional encouragement with a broader audience.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been a combination of social media marketing, attending career-focused events, and building trust through real client results and reviews. Social media has allowed me to consistently share career tips, resume advice, and examples of the value my services provide, which helps potential clients understand how I can support them before they even reach out. It has also created a space where people can engage with my brand, learn from my content, and see the consistency behind my work.
Attending career events at schools, networking opportunities, and company-related events has also been extremely valuable because it gives me the opportunity to connect with people directly. Those face-to-face conversations often lead to long-term relationships, referrals, and new clients because people are able to immediately understand the purpose behind my business and the services I offer.
One of the strongest drivers of growth has been real reviews and referrals from clients who have seen results. When someone secures an interview, lands a job, or feels more confident in their professional presentation, they often share that experience with others. Those authentic testimonials have been powerful because they reflect trust and real outcomes rather than just promotion. Over time, that combination of visibility, personal connection, and proven results has been the most effective way to continue growing my clientele.
