We recently connected with Elle Firespray and have shared our conversation below.
Elle, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
One of the most meaningful projects I’ve had the pleasure of working on recently is a collaboration with ceramics extraordinaire Lucas Anderson of Tamarack Ceramics. Together, we designed and crafted a striking crock vase inspired by the iconic universe of Star Wars.
The piece was conceived not merely as functional pottery, but as a sculptural display vessel for finely painted miniatures from the acclaimed tabletop game Star Wars: Legion, produced by Atomic Mass Games. Blending traditional ceramic craftsmanship with contemporary pop-culture storytelling, the vase celebrates both the artistry of handmade pottery and the immersive world of strategic miniature gaming.
The result is a unique fusion of form and fandom: an object that honors the legacy of Star Wars while elevating the presentation of its characters into something truly gallery-worthy.

Elle, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Elle Firespray, and I’m a miniature painter and small business owner based in Duluth, Minnesota. I specialize in painting board game and wargame miniatures, bringing intricate characters and dynamic scenes to life for collectors and players alike. Much of my work centers around titles like *Star Wars: Shatterpoint*, *Star Wars: Legion*, *The Stormlight Archive*, and *Kingdom Death: Monster*, *Cthulhu: Death May Die*, *Zombicide*, *Blood Rage*, and *Ankh: Gods of Egypt*.
I’ve been painting for about ten years, and for the past six I’ve been fully immersed in the industry. What began as a creative hobby quickly grew into a true passion. Over time, I turned that passion into part-time commission work, collaborating with individual clients and gaming companies to create custom-painted miniatures that elevate both gameplay and display.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The work is incredibly rewarding in many ways. What excites me most is the creative process itself, it’s what motivates me to give everything I have. There’s something special about bringing an idea to life, transforming it from grey into color, and then seeing it exist and function within a game. That moment is always deeply satisfying.
I also have to mention the wonderful community I’m part of. It’s a small, niche group, but it’s filled with incredibly talented people who constantly inspire me and help me grow as an artist.
Sitting down with my paints, picking up a brush, experimenting with gradients, hues, and colors… it feels like exploring tiny worlds. Through that process, I get to bring characters to life, and that’s a beautiful thing.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is always to keep growing, to challenge myself and gain more experience along the way. As a mom of three young children, life is incredibly busy, but whenever I get the chance to sit down and focus on my hobby, I make the most of it. I dive right in, eager to learn something new, whether through my own experimentation or from the talented people around me.
It’s also very important to me to set an example for my children. I want them to see that while education and knowledge matter, it’s important to follow your passions and put your heart into what truly makes you happy. I want them to know that they can pursue their dreams and achieve their goals through hard work, and sometimes a little bit of luck too.
