We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kayla Barron a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kayla thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
If I could choose, I would of started my creative agency sooner but timing is everything. I’ve always possessed great qualities to be a great leader but I believe I needed to grow into who I am today. My start to the career I am in started as young as listening to music that my brother would play. He’s 10 years older than me so a lot of my musical taste in Hip Hop/Rap comes from him. He would play a lot of East Coast Rap and Hip Hop. I just fell in love with it and how the flavor of the music affected me as a young kid.
I’ve always been into music and listening to music as a comfort. Even as a kid, I knew I wanted to make an impact in some form. Being able to connect to music through singing has allowed me to relate to the artists that I work with. I know how important it is to let your art breathe.
If it wasn’t for my many years in college developing my craft as a vocalist and then learning the foundation of the music business. My agency would not be thriving the way it has. I truly believe in helping others and helping them elevate to the next level. When they are able to reach goals, that brings me joy and confirmation that I’m doing exactly what I’m meant to be doing in this space.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a passionate music loving girl from sunny California. I always knew I’d do something in music and that I would be working towards my dreams as a professional in the space. My journey has been a great but long journey to get there to present day. I took the traditional route of singing in church and in school. I really sharpened my musical skills through education and keeping up with the ever changing industry of music.
I’ve never share this but I was very into printed media such as music journalism. I’ve always wanted the opportunity to work with artists and dig deep into who they are and why they do what they do. I’ve always been interested in that field of the music industry.
I am proud of what I’ve been able to build for myself in the 1.5 years of running my own creative agency. I have been able to help many independent artists with their careers and their identity within the industry. I have championed so many people that they don’t feel like clients or artists. They feel familiar and feel like friends that are accomplishing their goals and dreams step by step.
My brand is to empower independent artists with the strategy, structure, and confidence needed to build sustainable careers on their own terms.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is that I get to help people case by case. Everything is individual and tailored to them the individual. I get to meet them where they are at and it’s not always put together or perfect. Being able to build with someone in a creative space speaks to me. I consider myself to be a big team player when working with others especially in the creative space. It’s about getting towards the common goal.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
The biggest thing that society and especially music society can do to support artists, especially independent artists is to listen to the art. The human who is creating the music. Often times, people and society get very wrapped into the data, the numbers, and the surface level things that don’t define who a artist or creative is. The best efforts we can do is going to shows, buying merch, telling people how their music affects you and that you like it. It is free to support artists and creatives. There is enough of success to go around for everyone. You can succeed as long as you want it for yourself and work hard for it daily.
